Teen Driving Restrictions
Have you ever wondered why teens need to wait for a few years after getting their first driver's license to obtain one that doesn't have any restrictions? Well, the answer to this is relatively simple. States have implemented laws to aid teen drivers on their new adventure of driving a vehicle. There are two steps to these restrictions that teen drivers have to face. The first restriction is the "driver licensing programs" which requires teens to obtain a set number of years after getting their learner's permit to get a regular driver's license. The second restriction is the, "limiting distracted driving behaviors" this limitation doesn't rely as much on the states, this second restriction relies more on the parents of the driver. To begin with, you might ask yourself, "well, which one of these two restrictions works better in preventing teen accidents." There's no easy way to identify which limit works better; it depends on your point of view but in my opinion, the "driver licensing programs" works better and here's why. First, this restriction, law, prevents teens by setting a few ground rules, one of them is that when they are driving there needs to be a certified driver with them. The second reason …show more content…
These "law" that parents come up with are all connected to teen driving somehow. The law consists of parent and child making a contract on this that they won't do while driving if the child breaks one of the rules they would get punished. Some ways to make this rule work better are: " “having regular conversations about safety, practicing driving together, and [parents] leading by example.” As I said before some people think that this law is better but I'd rather use the "driver licensing program" since parents don't have to be checking up on their kids every time they

Did you know that 20% of crashes involve teen drivers? Well, they do and something needs to be done about it. A couple of suggested ideas are that the driving age should be changed to 18, or to have graduated licenses (GDL’s). Instead of waiting until teenagers turn 18, it would be better to have GDL’s so that they have more driving experience, they would have a shorter waiting period than waiting until they are 18, and there would be more checkpoints to see how capable they are to drive. These are all reasons there should be GDL’s.…

The appropriate age for a teenager to obtain a driving permit is 16 years old, however I believe it should be raised to 17 since there is a high rate of teenagers causing accidents. There might be some exceptions why they should keep it at 16 but due to the high rate of teen crashes they should raise the age to 17. Statistics have shown that teenagers have a higher chance of accidents. Teenagers from the ages of 15 to 17 are more likely to cause a car crash for many reasons. While teenagers go out at night and drive around with friends and only have their permit, they are putting other’s people life at risk. The three main reasons why teenagers should be at least the age of 17 to be able to get their permit is because they drive and text,…

In California and in almost every other state teens are eager to start driving and are excited to get their driver's license whether it’s to drive to the theaters or go to the store to buy some things, teens want the privilege to drive themselves anywhere at anytime they want, but with the freedom comes responsibility too. Each year they are hundreds of car related accidents which can result in death or serious injuries. Out of those hundreds of accidents most involve young drivers around the ages of 15 and 19, because of most accidents are caused or involve a teen or young driver many people believe and would strongly argue that the driving age should be raised but I would strongly argue back that it shouldn’t, it should be kept the way it is but with a little change in…

Most teenagers consider their driver’s license as their ticket to independence. With a driver’s license, minors are able to drive themselves around whether it’d be to school, work, or other activities. A driver’s license for a minor could also mean, tragic car accidents, night out at drinking parties with friends, vandalism, drug use, gang violence, and trespassing. The question we ask ourselves is, whether people under 18 be subjected to legal curfews or restricted driving privileges? Minors or those under the age of eighteen should be subjected to legal curfews and should have restrictions on their driving privileges.…

Do you like having your parents driving you around where you need to go? Or having to go places on your parents time because their busy or too tired to drive? No teen want that, especially if they can drive themselves. They are trying to establish a new law that teen can get their licenses when they turn 18 when they are more responsible instead of 16. The 16 year old driving age should stay the same instead of trying to increase the age because it can teach teens more about responsibility, gives teens more freedom, and they can just increase the practice driving hours instead of the age.…

One of the biggest perks of being a teenager is being able to drive. When a teenager begins to drive, they are happy and feel like they have more freedom. However, the dangers of teenage driving are higher than ever. According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, “Vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15-20 year-olds” (“California”). Teenage drivers create many dangerous distractions when behind the wheel of a vehicle. These distractions usually occur in three different areas: visual, cognitive, and manual.…

Well the current age requirement for a person 's driver 's license is 16 and 3 months (License Eligibility.) and a lot of people are saying that America should change it to 18 years old to have it (Magazine for High School.). The arguments for it are all about the fact that most teenage drivers are unsafe and have a high statistic to crash more often than adults (Magazine for High School).. The arguments against it are about the fact that experience is the best teacher especially with motor skills and getting it later won 't help with that (Magazine for High School.). Some people don 't really have an opinion on this subject because no matter what teen drivers will get into accidents just due to inexperience (NHTSA.). The driver 's license requirement age is an often argued about topic in the United States whether its for, against, or neutral towards it.…

In the world today one of the most exciting parts of growing up is getting your driver’s license. Everyone counts on getting their sweet 16 car and license, but is that really the important part? Well yes as all teenagers would say. Even though it comes to losing their life because of inexperience, and immaturity on the road. There are lots of reasons why the driving age should be raised. ”All 50 states prohibit 16-year-olds from drinking alcohol, buying cigarettes, and purchasing handguns. Yet somehow most states are willing to put them in charge of a car, which could potentially be a deadly weapon.”(Amico). Driving is one of the leading causes of death for teenagers, their brain is not fully developed, and with more drivers on the road that is more pollution to the earth.…

If asked most teens would say that they don't think of the consequences their driving could bring, because if they had then the statistics of fatalities due to car accidents would not be so high. In 1997, according to the US Department of Transportation, 7,885 teens were involved in fatal crashes. They also claim that teen crashes are 4 times the normal rate of accidents. These accidents are occurring because teens tend to take more risks. They drive too fast and usually aren't paying attention to the road and their surroundings. They are too busy playing with the radio, lighting cigarettes, or talking to their friends. I have yet to see a teenager drive down my street at 25mph, it is usually about 40mph. What will it take for the laws to be changed? Is it going to take a politician's little girl being killed by a speeding teen to wake people up? Maybe if we were to take some extra precautions in issuing drivers' licenses, we would not have so many of our young teens dying in car crashes.…

Do you trust your 17 year old son or daughter to get behind the wheel of a vehicle? Many people are against teen driving laws in America, but just as many are for the laws as opposed. Many teenagers always dream of driving a car, on the open road experiencing the freedom that comes along with your license. It is apparent that many teenagers are usually inexperienced when it comes to getting behind the wheel. Due to the fact to qualify for a License in some states all you need is sixty hours behind the wheel with a parent and fifteen hours in a driving class. Finally, after a defined period in the learning phase, unrestricted driving occurs, within the age of typically 17 or 18.…

If adolescents are mature enough, now, to get their school permit at 15, they are mature enough to get their license. Most kids turn 15 their freshman year of high school, which means a lot of responsibility is put on them. This will allow students to be careful with their driving, because they will get the privilege of driving at 15. Another plus to letting kids get their school permits at 14 is that parents won’t have to won’t have to get off of work to get their kids from extra-curricular activities, and students that walk home, even in the dead of winter, won’t have to…

Law does not allow citizens most adult privileges until the age of 18. Why should driving be any different? Teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as other drivers. Research indicates that when teens begin driving at a later age, they're less likely to get into crashes during their first years on the road. It would encourage them to do better on their homework, try harder in school, and not be irresponsible with their friends showing their parents that they are responsible and want their license. Teenagers tend to get into wrecks more often and tend to do more stupid things in cars than adults do.…
