The teen years. The years of our lives where our heads are filled with mixed emotions, our bodies our going through drastic changes, and we are constantly trying to fit in and be accepted. And with all these attributes of adolescence comes the consumption of alcohol. Both approaches to reducing underage drinking have their pros and cons. It depends on the perspective of each individual. Teen drinking poses many problems in the spectrum of a teens life, as it is easily accessible and can physically and socially ruin a life. However, decriminalization of alcohol for teens is one method in which some feel that this problem could be solved, while others feel that reduction of media influence combined with proper parenting would be more sensible. The problem of underage drinking must be stopped before the first sip is taken. Underage drinking, although extremely common, is a serious issue that needs to be dealt with before the fresh essence of youth is ruined, and lives are washed down the drain. Because it is almost impossible to avoid circumstances that pressure one into drinking, it is best to make a decision about drinking before the time comes so the decision is thoroughly contemplated. Drinking does make one the most popular person at school, but respect for choosing not to drink can. This leadership quality can influence others to follow in the same footsteps. The negative outcomes of alcohol are so often neglected and not taken into consideration when a teen decides to drink. It can lead to emotional problems, social unrest, and can physically damage a life. The legal age of drinking is set to 21 because at the age of 21, suitable decisions are made, and responsibilities are upheld with the intention to develop in the future. Luckily, there are people that care about the future of the youth and have created campaigns and programs that aim to reduce underage drinking, while others feel decriminalization of alcohol for teens would be a more feasible answer and...
