TOPIC “the ways in which technology is changing the way we communicate” Are we better for it or worse off than we were 20 years ago? Do you think the technology is bringing us closer togehter or father apart? Cite some examples from your own lives to help your answer.

Technology that we have today has changed our lives and the way we communicate. It’s not the same thing as we had 20 years ago. Long time ago there wasn’t such thing as computers and chats were we could easily respond to any person that we like. The only thing there was left was to meet with each other and talk face to face. Right now, our communication looks different because now you can talk through messengers and chats without seeing each other. In my opinion, communicating through internet shouldn’t look like that because this way we hide our emotions inside without expressing them in real life. I think technology is bringing us closer together but also apart; there’s pros and cons to it. Through internet we can meet all sorts of different people from even different countries and we can even expend our knowledge based of the news from computers. But on the other hand, technology puts as farther apart specially young kids, because as statistics show in the article called, “Mobile: A Trend That Is Reshaping Communication” which gives us 91% of children keeping their smartphone within arms reach 24/7/365. For me, phone is not that important I use it only for important phone calls from family and friends, but I do have cousins which have their iPhones with them all the time and can’t live without them. Therefore, technology will not disappear it will expand more and it’s neutral thing which can bring some people farther apart or closer.

Where would people be without technology? They would not keep in contact with the one they met at Casablanca three years ago, or trawling through a photo album of their elementary school classmates. They would not be able to use emoji instead of words to craft a sentence. However, technological advances make people be too immersed in the virtual world and disconnect from people around them. It means that technology has gradually taken the place of the side by side connection and face-to-face conversation. There is a sense of panic about how technology interferes with human interaction. Sherry Turkle, a psychologist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in her article “Flight From Conversation,” uses much credible evidence to explain how the increase of connections among people from miles away has led to a loss in face-to-face and eye-to-eye…

There are several similarities and differences between Maya Angelou's "Champion of the World" and Amy Tan's "Fish Cheeks." In both stories, the main character is trying to fit in with a group of which they are inherently not a part of. Angelou tries to fit in with the elder African Americans in that she copies their feelings of hope that Joe always full name or only last name will win the fight, and Tan tries to become a typical white American girl in order to attract a boy that she likes. Angelou, being so young, mirrors the adults’ desire for the triumph of Joe Louis, who is viewed as the representative and hero of the oppression experienced by all black people. Because Conjunction beginning a sentence of all the blacks gathered in the store, Angelou is surrounded by blacks who are proudly rooting for Louis’ triumph, the African-American victory over decades of oppression suffered at the hands of whites. She is filled with this desire to win and is unashamed to take pride in her ethnicity. Unlike Angelou, Tan is ashamed of her race and wants to fit in with Americans.…

Some people might say that technology is a definite positive development with only positive changes. However, although the technological advance have been and is extremely helpful to everyone around the world, people need to think about how people can be too consumed in the technology that they can isolate themselves from the outside world even. Having fun with technology is normal, but we must not forget how to really communicate without the use of texting or email. Communicating face-to-face should be a key skill humans should never lose. The saying, “having too much of a good thing, can be bad,”…

In the past, you had to send a letter in the mail you travel to see them to communicate with someone; if you wanted to talk to someone, you would have to put the effort into it and take the time to write them and wait for a response back. Then with technology advancing, the telephone was made and you could call someone to talk to them instead of writing a letter and waiting for the person to respond. Technology kept advancing, and now in today’s society, we hardly talk on the phone; we text instead, which is quick, easy, and effortless. This is what technology has done to human beings as a whole. It has brought wonderful advancements, yet at the same time, technology has been a curse and changed the way we view each other. No one really communicates with each other now; only through texting do we talk.…

I am sure you have enjoyed the ease of connecting to people from different corners of the globe with just one click of a button; whether it is via the internet or even a cellular phone. These types of technology are considered to be modern technology. According to Longman’s Dictionary of Contemporary English (2007), Modern Technology speaks to usage of modern tools, techniques, crafts, systems or methods of organization. Wanda Thibodeaux, eHow contributor stated that “Technology has given us nearly instant communication. In addition, more people are able to view information and products than ever before. The increase in communicative ability and access to data is beneficial in that it creates a certain level of accountability. For instance, members of the media are under more pressure to report accurately, since the data they report is seen by potentially millions of people worldwide”. Modern technology aids in the enhancement of our existence; hence it can be considered as a friend; however I argue that it should be considered as our foe as most modern technology mechanisms have some negative effect on our lives. Modern Technology is an active source of pollution; also many criminal activities are originated from or influenced by Modern Technology. Most importantly modern technology has a negative impact on our health. Although modern technology has its advantages; it cannot be denied that there are some serious disadvantages.…
