Technological Advances-Beneficial or Not
1. Technology has not only enhanced my educational experience at SUNY Canton, but has made it possible. I work full-time at Public Health for St. Lawrence County. I wouldn’t be able to attend full-time classes and work at my job. I also have a part-time job at St. Lawrence University—which couldn’t be possible if I wasn’t able to take the online courses offered by SUNY Canton. The online courses allow me to fit the classes into my schedule, instead of the other way around. That is uniquely appreciated. My degree is almost completely online. That is a tremendous change from even 10 years ago. 2. I have taken around 20+ online classes, thus far. 3. What makes a “good online class” is an instructor who consistently checks their messages, has a quick turnaround time on grading of assignments, and is open minded. I understand the concept of ‘firm’ due dates for assignments, to simulate the “real world environment” students will find themselves in upon graduation, but I have been much more successful in online classes that have a set “due “schedule, i.e.: assignments/dB/quizzes due on a weekly basis. Period. I have not done as well in online classes that for example, have a discussion board due on Wednesday s, and the quizzes due on Friday and the assignment due on Sundays. It is simpler to understand and to complete coursework (especially non-traditional coursework) in sets or groups. Because even though the class may on my minds while being researched, worked on, and thought about on a daily basis, it is more difficult to orchestrate and adhere to many firm due dates within a small timeframe—like weekly. To me, it was simply more missed opportunities, due to a mixed up due date, and if you have an instructor that doesn’t permit late assignments, it can annihilate your grade. If you have 2 or 3 classes with staggered due date formats, well, for me, with children, work, and a life, yeah, it

When comparing online education versus traditional education, the most important factor potential students need to analyze is their scheduling concerns. While there are numerous students who attend college directly out of high school, there is a substantial amount of college bound individuals who already have a full time job and family when they start. The author of this essay was like many other college students in that she had to withdraw from her classes on a physical campus…

Online Classes are easier for me to attend due to the convenience of flexible hours, the savings of time and money, and technological edge. Every morning I wake up and make my coffee, log into my computer, and check into my online classroom. I post answers to discussion questions throughout the week, write research papers, take weekly quizzes, and read my textbook all online. I actually enjoy this time. I get to wear my glasses, slippers, yoga pants, and cozy sweater, rather than jeans, boots, make-up and contacts. I don’t have to carry my backpack, find parking, or miss my cat.…

In this essay I will argue that technology does not ensure progress. The first main concept that needs to be clarified is 'technology'. This paper acknowledges the concept 'technology' as being the application of science, especially to industrial or commercial objectives. The other key concept 'progress' in this essay is defined as a steady improvement, as a society or civilization. I am arguing that the concept of technology does not ensure the concept of progress because there are certain technologies that have hurt society in various ways. Furthermore, not all technologies ensure progress.…

The teaching methods are different in each class the students are more independent in one more than in the other. In the online classes the students are left to do their work on their time. In the traditional classes the work is assigned to be done in class or on a specified date. More or less the students in the traditional classes are guided by their instructor more than in the online class setting. Online students are responsible for reading all material and information listed for that week’s assignment. The student gets reading assignments as well as other information just as the online class students do. The difference is that the assignments may be read in class or the due date may be moved opposed to the student having to read the material on their own. This also allows the student to ask questions about the assignment if they had any problems understanding it. In the online class setting the students aren’t usually given lectures. They are usually given power point presentations as well as some brief notes. The students in the traditional classes are also given power point presentations and notes but have the advantage of a lecture as well. Some students learn better from listening than they do reading. Therefore, the teacher giving a lecture is an important part of the students learning process. The traditional class also gives the…

Online education is emerging as a powerful and popular trend for college students - especially those living in rural areas. It is easy to see the benefits of taking classes at home. There is no money to spend on gas and vehicle maintenance. It is generally considered safer to stay at home than to venture out onto the roads in inclement weather, not to mention other drivers with road rage. There is no need to spend money on a special wardrobe for school. The negatives of online courses include far less connection and communication with the professors and classmates. There is also more intense mental work involved with online courses in order to get good grades.…

Since the creation of the internet, every aspect of our lives has been changed in both developmental and deteriorated ways. The internet changed how we work, how we entertain ourselves and, of course, how we process information and learn. Students get educated in different ways; like through hybrid and traditional classes, however, distance education is indispensable for learning. In an article from Nature and Science, Kobra Lashgari et. al (2011) defines, “Distance education places students and their instructors in separate locations using some form of technology to communicate and interact”(p.21). Aside from the long-term advantages of earning a degree, there are immediate advantages that come from earning that degree through taking online courses. Here are a few reasons students take courses online instead a traditional school.…

There still be questions that linger over both group of people head about is it better to do online courses or on campus courses. People want to go back to school but the time and money is they biggest factor that hold them back from doing just that. Doing online will be less time consuming and can save them some money as well. Although, studies show that “Research suggests that online courses have significant higher dropout rates than face-to-face courses,”(Tello,2007). By that most people get phobia to do online classes and they just do not worry about it anymore. It not easy to do online classes because students will have to study more and they have less interaction with the instructor. In the same way, good feedback from the instructor help students in online courses to perceived to higher satisfaction(Tello,2007). No Matter where we turn in the world, technology has become a part of our daily lives. We can find technology in businesses, hospitals, schools, communities and pretty much everywhere we turn. Some argue that we are too dependent on technology and as a result we have become isolated rather than more sociable; an example would be our newest generation of children that spend countless hours playing by themselves video games, computer games or sitting in front of a TV for hours. These children rarely interact with others, except through technology. Yet, we also see the benefits such as how technology has brought us closer to each other through webcams, cell phones, and more real-time communication tools. We will review the pros and cons of technology from the beginning of computers until today and why it is a good thing that technology exist, why were better with it then without it.…

With the rapid advancement in technology, it's amazing to see the way businesses are now being managed. We reside in a virtual world now. Perhaps I'm shooting a little far by stating that online classes are replacing the standard classes; but there has been a shift in favor of them. Taking online classes have lowered the cost of education, given students the flexibility of completing assignments and taking on a part time job. Enrolling in online courses lighten the load for students carrying a heavy plate; but also presents the risk of procrastination.…
