It has not been quite recently when I scheduled and fulfilled the observation requirement, but about a year ago this month when applying for this program last year. The amazing thing about it is that the memory of this day still remains vividly in my mind. It was on this day that I learned the basic and not so basic job requirements for becoming a radiology technologist. Automated Dispensing

With technology advancing, the role of both the pharmacy technician and the pharmacist is taking a swing toward making the dispensary a better work environment. Automatic dispensing systems are taking over the dispensing issues of the pharmacy and technicians fear they will take over their job completely. The duties of a pharmacy technician are counting pills and placing them in the proper vials with lids and applying the appropriate labels to assist the pharmacist in anyway possible so they can spend more time with patients. Maybe in the smaller pharmacies some technicians will lose their job, but in the busier and bigger pharmacies, technicians will become an asset. The machines can 't stock themselves. Someone needs to keep the cabinets well stocked and all the products will have to be checked for expiry dates on a regular basis. Everyday pharmacy supplies have to be maintained, ordering and receiving of products has to be looked after, and the filing of the prescriptions and sales records has to be filed on a daily basis. These jobs will always be available and machines will never replace the technician completely because even when you think there is nothing to do, there is always something.…

My answer is simple, I have an exemplary team at work that understand my schedule and an even more creditable group of coaches that understand my determination and drive to excel.…

During the middle of my sophomore year at Norway High School we took the quick 10 minute drive to Kingsford and toured the Dickinson Iron Intermediate School District. There was a plan set in stone for me to see the welding lab. After meeting and learning about all the different opportunities there are after attending this school, we finally got to meet with Mr. Jezylo and Mr. Paulsen. As soon as I entered the shop I instantly felt at home. The humming of the welding machines, the loud crash of metal falling to the floor after being cut, and the sparks flying as students are welding were amazing. I could've spent forever in there learning about welding and what it takes to become a welder, but sadly we had to leave and go back to our homeschool. I couldn't stop thinking about welding and how bad I wanted to learn about it. Everything we learned that day opened my mind to new experiences.…

That being said, I need to learn and develop strategies to tackle similar situations in the future. These strategies include collaboration, adequate knowledge, and interventions to prevent distractions. In general, collaboration is an important factor in reducing medication errors, but primarily, timely and effective collaboration with the pharmacy can prevent late deliveries. Also, enhancing one’s knowledge regarding drugs aid in prioritizing one’s tasks. Since nurses are unable to deliver all of their patients’ medications at that specific time, nurses need effective judgement and prioritizing skills, such that crucial medications are administered before other medications. Also, by knowing how the drug is to be prepared and administered, nurses should allocate enough time for these processes. To decrease time-related medication errors from distractions, Pape (2013) proposes the use of the “no interruption zone” (pg. 219) when preparing medications, which is marked on the floor with tape. In addition, nurses may wear a sash during medication preparation and administration to warn individuals not to interrupt the healthcare provider during the process. Furthermore, when nurses are disturbed by other individuals, they should verbally inform them to stop their distracting acts. For…
