In a world that has only one constant factor, which is change, it is imperative as educators to provide an education for students that will provide them with a successful foundation for their future endeavors. In order to provide accurate material to students, we, as an educational community, need to gain an understanding for where the world and society is today, as well as the projected developments of the future. Whether the middle school students sitting in the classroom are college bound, or eager to enter the workforce upon high school graduation, all students are in need of technology education. Today, the projected job market is dominated by technology oriented positions and professional growth. An article from the U.S. News reports “As technology seemingly advances its way into every nook and cranny of our society, the job market for individuals with vat knowledge of it is ever expanding” (U.S. News, 2012). However, technology education cannot be efficiently reached if the educators are not given the resources to teach technology. By providing teachers with the knowledge to infuse their lessons with technology, students will be given a competitive edge when entering college, or a technological driven society.…

My philosophy of Career and Technical Education revolves around a few basic principles. First, I believe that formal education is a necessity in the recipe for success. Gone I believe are the times where a student could drop out of high school and still find a rewarding modest paying career. Another belief of mine is that education should prepare people for specific jobs rather than just a broad field education. Having a highly skilled workforce is dependent on people being well-versed in their field. My third belief is that legislation has provided the foundations for Career and Technical Education and will continue to be influential in the future. Lastly, I believe that the explosion of technology over the last 20 years has helped Career and Technical Education grow and will continue to be a driving force going forward.…

In other words, TVET would make people more productive in designated areas of financial activity (e.g. occupations, economic sectors and specific work tasks). It has the possible to develop trainer’s capabilities and increase people choices. Also, the TVET opportunities should be distributed fairly between all the community spectra. However, the general education and training began in pre-history with the transmission of knowledge and culture from one generation to the next. In pre-history, human began using tools which were made from stones, and then they evolved as humans evolved.…

Milind Sohoni This note analyses the nature of research and development (R&D) as it is practised in our premier engineering institutes and its effect on India’s development. I argue that the dominant paradigm of R&D is too abstract for it to be accessible to a wider set of students and teachers, and for it to yield developmental dividends. Furthermore, our metrics for R&D are too ‘international’ to incentivize work on our own development problems. I contend that good engineering must train students to model societal problems and solve them, and that problems coming from our development needs are good vehicles to promote it. Finally, I make some recommendations to make engineering more inclusive and outline the role of the engineering college as a regional solution provider.…

I have to admit that my formal knowledge of Technical and Vocational Education and training was somewhat limited prior to the beginning of this course, Philosophical Foundations of TVET and Workforce Development. My interest has now deepen as I now realise that I have experienced the hands of TVET since high school and now as an educator in training in the field of Educational Administration. As a matter of fact, I have felt with great sadness, a sense of un-accomplishment after graduating from my first tertiary institution. I was a product of the educated masses without any form of workforce training.…
