It took my coach the whole summer of conditioning to figure out who would be the right fit for team captain. When he finally decided to make me the team captain he told me “You are the right person for the job”. At the time I didn’t see it but as the season progressed I understood what he meant when he said that. We played countless schools with thriving soccer programs, and every game we fell to a deficient of more than 6 goals. Our program was a struggling one and majority of the time we played down 3 or more players. Being on a team that is struggling, I found that it is not as easy to be committed as you may think. Despite these hardships, I still found it within me to remain dedicated throughout the season. Showing up to every practice, every game, motivating others to do so as well, it was all a part of my role as a leader. Before every game, I made sure the team was in uniform, focused, and ready to play. I made sure to always be the first one on the field ready to play. I also made sure the announcers had the roster for our team. Being a leader contributed to my passion for the game. Having a passion for the sport made it that much easier for me to be team captain. With this passion, I was able to keep the drive that I had in me. Despite all the losses I still loved the game just as much as I did when I first stepped on the field. Regardless of whatever happen in the games my passion never depleted. My love for the game spread throughout the team making me the best choice for captain.
