Teaching Session Analysis
Evaluate the teaching and learning approaches and effectiveness of resources for your observed session. Evaluate how your session met the needs of individual learners.
My micro teaching session consisted of teaching a dance routine (Locking) and a warm up exercise. The session was to introduce the basics of locking; and also to make it appealing to all the different learning styles. For the purpose of the session a big space without carpet was needed to make it safe for the all learners in the session.

To ensure that all learning styles were catered for I used demonstrations of the dance routine for the visual and kinaesthetic learners and my own verbal delivery for the auditory learners. I started the session of with an informal chat

After outlining the learning outcomes the lesson starts with a ‘Find someone who’ ice breaker. This allows me to assess the learners, it’s a group work exercise to employ inclusive learning from the start and it creates a sociable, personable and safe learning environment for the session whilst incorporating functional skills. In this section I will use eye contact, I will call the learners by name and I will use a personable teaching style to include all the learners. We move onto some easy rhythm warm ups to boost self-esteem, help learners feel comfortable and build on group interaction. I can assess learner’s practical skills through observation whilst making learners feel comfortable with their mistakes and reinforce that everyone’s contribution is valuable whilst giving context to the theory that is introduced in the next section using a kinaesthetic and aural learning approaches. When explaining the theory I’m going to use words and syllables to help understand rhythms and notation. This technique incorporates visual, aural, kinaesthetic, reading and writing learning styles, making an unaccustomed concept of notated music familiar and accessible to everyone. I will assess learning by getting individuals to perform and write…

I believe that a good way to get student engaged in a session with tutors is the interaction between the tutor and the student. When a student is being tutored it is important that the tutor and student builds a trusting relationship with one another, so that the student is able to engage in the session. Another way to engage students in a tutoring session to build the students confidence, this way the student will be more engaged the learning process. A way in knowing that a student is engaged in a tutoring session how they are able to respond to questions that are being asked and the question that they ask. Interaction during the session say's a lot about how the student reacts to the information that they are receiving.…

Tutoring has been around for hundreds of years. It has come from tutoring one-on-one to tutoring in groups, peer groups and now even online at a distance. One of the first forms of tutoring, which is still used today, was conceived by a well-known educator by the name of Andrew Bell. This form of tutoring was referred to as "peer tutoring" which is a system of instruction in which learners help each other and learn (themselves) by teaching. Andrew Bell 's initial reasoning behind using peer tutoring was to give under privileged children the opportunity to learn. This method of tutoring has been used and is still being used today in schools and learning centers. It was designed to have the more advanced students to help the students who were challenged in the same area, to understand content better. This allowed for more students to continue to learn a subject and not keep a teacher or instructor from being able to progress further because of…

The majority of the students had a fun and enjoyable lesson which was one of the objectives of the class. The other objective was to know what a ‘dynamic’ is in dance. I feel all students had a clear understanding of this by the end of the session and demonstrated different dynamics in dance and could also talk about this at the end of the session.…

In this task I feel that the demonstration of appropriate dance technique to the contemporary genre was at a satisfactory standard. The correct contemporary technique was evident in a number of students, while others, I feel require more effort. The group, in general lacked physical competencies. Strength and flexibility was not a strong highlight, although they did demonstrate good coordination skills. The drop swings exercise proved to be their strongest asset. The Grande Battement exercise required work, turn out and alignment seemed to be, overall the thing that most people had difficulties in mastering. The identification and application of correct posture and alignment was evident, more often than not throughout the class. In general I feel that my peers have improved over the weeks but still demands a lot more work in order to strengthen their technique.…
