Teaching Personal Responsibility

Personal responsibility is individual accountability and trustworthiness. To me it is taking ownership of one’s own actions. Everyone is responsible for everything that they do. Their career, their education, and their family are choices in life. In School if one is not responsible they would not get any work done, and would not get a degree. Getting a degree is very important to most people. Without that education, a person would not be able to advance to the next step in their career. Not many colleges help teach personal responsibility. According to one study, Cal State Northridge is one of only 23 colleges and universities across the country chosen to be part of AACU 's Core Commitments three-year initiative to revitalize the role of higher education in fostering the development of personal and social responsibility among college students. Participation in the AACU national survey is a key component of this initiative. Cal State is “committed to increasing its curricular and co-curricular programs to provide additional opportunities to integrate social awareness, personal accountability and academic honesty."
If they were not responsible they would lose their job. For an example, a teacher is responsible for teaching children. If they were not responsible the children would not learn and most likely not supervised. Which in turn, there would be injuries at school happening more often. Teachers and schools are doing everything they can to ensure that their students succeed. If the students do not think it is cool to do well in school, if being bad is better than being smart, then they will not succeed.
