Teachers Authorized to Carry Weapons in Classrooms
Teachers Authorized to Carry Weapons in Classrooms In the past year there have been fifteen school shootings in the United States. That is an average of one in every five weeks, targeting students, teachers and or administrators. States like Colorado have had five deadly school massacres in the state’s history. Due to these facts, the idea of teachers being permitted to carry a concealed weapon on a school campus is a beneficial one. Teachers across the nation have been speaking up, claiming that weapons should be allowed on school grounds as long as trained professionals are carrying the weapons. The benefits of teachers being permitted to have concealed weapons include safety of the students and faculty, faster response time in a threatening situations, and decreasing the vulnerability of schools. Gun violence and school shootings happen throughout the country on a daily basis, so there needs to be a law written that would allow teachers to carry concealed weapons. This would help to provide safety and up security in protecting the students in case there was a life threatening situation. No student should be fearful at school, the most important duty a teacher has is to provide a positive learning environment and to make children feel safe. Gun violence has dramatically increased in the past three decades. School shootings happen nationwide. Five tragic incidents have occurred in Colorado, the most deadly was the Columbine High School massacre where 15 people were killed. The shootings that happened after Columbine have gotten worse, and the government is trying to stop the reoccurrence of the shootings that have taken place in Colorado history. According to the article “School shootings since Columbine High massacre” in The Denver Post, there have been twenty-one school shootings in the USA since the Columbine massacre. The most deadly was the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting the occurred on December 14, 2012, in Newtown Connecticut. Twenty children

Many schools are asking themselves if they should go through with training teachers and staff and some schools have started doing so. Even though most schools have not allowed teachers to carry a concealed firearm, some teachers like Kelly Blake, a teacher of agriculture at Fleming School in Colorado, reports that she “wants her students to be protected at all times.” Other teachers along with Blake have looked at the arming teachers situation like this as well because they feel like they have the right to bare arms and protect themselves. Along with giving…

David Burnett supports the idea of allowing students to carry concealed weapons. Burnett’s central argument is that gun free zones leave students defenseless. Darby Dickerson disagrees, saying students do not understand the responsibilities of owning a weapon and should therefore, not be allowed to carry them on campus.…

The Sandy Hook shooting on December 14 devastated many parents, children, and even people that were not linked at all to the shooting. There have been plenty of devastating school shootings, but this shooting has caused many schools and even businesses to crack down on their security and take more precautions to ensure that something like this does not happen again. Teachers must have the right to carry concealed firearms because the safety of their students lies in their hands. How is a teacher supposed to protect his or her students from a criminal with a gun when the teacher does not have a gun? Is the teacher going to reason with the killer? No, the teacher will not successfully reason with a killer. Obviously, the teacher cannot overpower the killer, while the killer has a handgun or other type of firearm, either.…

Nothing is more dangerous than the threat of being attacked by armed gunmen in schools. The school board, educators, and parents are arguing about whether should teachers be armed or not. One side believes arming teachers should be made legal in the state of California because, every single person has a right to defend themselves, the right with it to bear arms, many school districts are in rural areas far from such law enforcement protections, armed teachers help prevent emergency situations, and armed teachers would have minimized mass shootings. The other side believes arming teachers should be continued to be illegal in the state of California because, guns are dangerous, purchasing ammunition and guns for every teacher and training is…

Gun control has recently created a massive uproar throughout the United States because of the recent, and sincerely unfortunate, Sandy Hook school shooting that occurred last December. In response to this tragedy, Democratic leaders have been attempting to capitalize on the incident and push forward their respective agenda of limiting gun rights. As one can imagine, there are a surfeit of opinions on the subject, but despite this fact, I have come to affirm that I am strong believer in strengthening gun control. Although the right to bear arms should continue to be guaranteed by the Second Amendment, our nation’s need for heightened security in school classrooms and other public places is…

There are so many school shootings in a single year and if people had conceal and carry many people could still be alive. If staff and students were armed in situations like school shootings it would make many more people feel more comfortable and make the kids and staff safer. “Fifty-six percent of Americans believe the US would be safer if more people carried concealed weapons, after undergoing training and a background check, according to a 2015 Gallup Poll. That's a noticeable difference from 2005, when 65 percent said they would not feel safer in a place with concealed firearms” (Jackson). People believe that it is safer that people have guns to protect themselves and other people in bad situations. If people think that a school is more protected they might not choose that school to attack because of all the conceal and carry. Students and staff also might feel more comfortable during a lockdown because they have a weapon to protect themselves and anyone else. It also might make parents and family members feel better knowing that their family member has a way of protection without them. “Nearly 7 percent of high school students nationwide reported being threatened or injured with a weapon on school property at least once in the past year, according to a Centers for Disease Control 2013 survey” (Balmert). Many people have been attacked on school property with a…

Gun-free zones put students in danger, but if we have guns allowed in school that only teachers can carry around. Claire Caulfeild said “because law enforcement can’t be the first responders, the first responders are those at the event…like teachers or parents.” Teachers and trusted parents should be able to carry guns. If you have a gun and something dangerous happens you will be the first to help. First responders won’t get there before it happens. Having a gun at your side would be very good to have.…

In the recent years, the shootings as a result of confrontations that have occurred at U.S colleges and universities have led to heated debates on whether students, administrators and professors should be allowed to carry concealed guns or not. Whereas some analysts have continually defended the opinion that guns should be allowed on college and campuses grounds, majority have nullified any single idea of having concealed weapons on campuses as this is a direct threat to the security of everyone around. For the safety of students, bills meant to allow public colleges and universities to allow hidden and loaded guns on campus should not be passed.…

According to Florida, Nine states—Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Kansas, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Mississippi, and Texas (starting in 2016)—allow for campus carry (Florida, 2015). Will this help resolve gun violence in schools or will it cause problems? Only time will tell if teachers will be able to reduce violence in school with a loaded gun in their desk. The fear is the possibility of a teacher’s gun, in the hands of an individual with mental issues. There is no real solution until parents and schools focus on the underlying cause of violence, and that is mental…
