At 1:00 p.m. I entered into Evoline C. West Elementary school on Thursday, July 12 2012 for an interview with Mrs. Yolanda Lawrence. As I entered the classroom, I was greeted by Mrs. Lawrence, the head teacher in this classroom. Mrs. Lawrence has no assistant at this present because of it being in the summer. After I entered into the classroom, the entire class welcomed me with “hello Ms. Flournoy”. It made my day to see all of those smiley faces greeting me. This was a 2nd grade classroom which consisted of 17 students of which 8 were girls and 9 were boys. This interview and observation was a total of 2 hours long. During the observation of Mrs. Lawrence classroom, I noticed how the students flocked under Mrs. Lawrence as she started reading one their favorite books before they did their afternoon lesson. For some reason I got an excitement about doing this interview.
My Observation of a Lesson Plan Once the story was over, Mrs. Lawrence had the students to go back to their desk because Math class was getting ready to begin. Mrs. Lawrence reminded the student that they would continue with their study on multiplication as they have been doing for the past two weeks. Mrs. Lawrence listed math objective on the chalk board and manipulative on the back table. When the lesson begins, the students are in a large group and then they moved to small groups/centers. Mrs. Lawrence began the lesson by asking the students who can tell her what multiplication means. After a couple of students burst out the answer, Mrs. Lawrence raised her hand which meant to the students to lower their voices and raise their hands for the answer. I noticed that that was her management strategy in her classroom.

After this Mrs. Lawrence had the student break up into different group where some were completing individual work, some were playing a

I observed Mrs. Ball’s 7th grade science class at Helen Tyson Middle School on Thursday November 5, 2015. The classroom had a great climate and was decorated with interesting scientific educational material. She had the desks set up in organized rows with two kids per table. This set up allowed for less interaction between the kids because they were so spaced out, which seemed to keep them on task. The dynamics in the classroom were great. She connected well with each student and was interested in what they had to say. She was very in control of the class and the students seemed to respond well to her. The students interacted pleasantly with one another and were were all very welcoming. They came into class, sat down, and got right to work.…

Once again, I was placed in Mrs.Metcalfe who teaches second grade at Bens Branch Elementary. Mrs.Metcalfe took attendance while the students waited patiently on the carpet. After she took attendance, she addressed that she had taken some privileges away from the students because the students did not picked up their mess after having centers and would not follow instructions that the teacher gave. She explained that centers might return for the upcoming school year if they behaved properly. After she addressed the issues of the students, she instructed everyone to go back to their desks and waited till they put their thumbs which meant that they were ready for the lesson of the day. Mrs.Metcalfe went up to the front of the class to use the projector and expected her students to follow what she was doing on their worksheets.…

I did an interview with a second grade teacher this week and decisions that she had to make. When I was asking her some of the question it was hard for her to answer because she thought she didn’t have any decisions she had to make. It was like it was so easy for her to do everything. So one of the questions I had to ask what are some examples of typical, quick decisions she had to make on a daily basis. She had a confused face and she had to think hard and she told me extra time on skills and the students behavior if they got into trouble they had to go to the office. The second one I asked her was what were five most difficult school-related decisions that she had to make this week and what made them difficult. The first one was students find out which students needs there RTI. Find out want they need to work on and want was there level they were at. RTI is Response to Intervention. It’s a program they have at the school to help students that cannot learn fast and having trouble understands their work. Then she had to think about some more and then she said finding time for differentiated Instruction and getting materials together. Some times its very hard to get everything that you need for the class to teaching and make sure you have everything and don’t forget anything when you have the students in the classroom she said sometimes she haves to do it when she takes the students to P.E. when she haves to start a new science curriculum-getting all the materials and the reviewing for the lessons can be hard to if she don’t have want she needs too. When she haves to find time to plan a lesion she haves to do that when the students go to lunch or…

When I had first volunteered at a preparatory school as a teacher’s assistant, I was thrilled and excited. I enjoyed working with children and I admit, was slightly disillusioned with expectations that the children would be dutiful and effortless to watch over. Unfortunately, all my prior imaginations crashed the second I entered the classroom. Everywhere I saw, it was pure chaos. I dodged a flying crayon as I saw children running around throwing paper airplanes, balls, while others just stared at their iPads, focused on the latest game. Not a single one of them even listened to me or glanced at me as I tried to yell over the loud chatter.…
