When communicating with children and young people you need to be able to demonstrate a number of skills to be able to communicate effectively. 9/10 you usually do it on a daily basis without even thinking about it however it is always worth just reflecting upon your practice to ensure you’re using correct methods etc. You also find yourself becoming a better practitioner if you are able to reflect/criticise your own practice because you’re identifying where you need to improve. Children learn to communicate from those who communicate with them, within my placement, this is why it is so important to have such clear communication skills because you need to ensure you’re able to counteract all their individual abilities, social skills and backgrounds. By doing this you’re opening their minds to express themselves freely however you also need to adapt this to the class to be able to ensure those who aren’t as confident can participate if and when they’re comfortable to do so, this doesn’t mean you, as a member of staff, shouldn’t demonstrate good communication or encourage individuals to get involved, just know the boundaries of your students and their communicative skills. As well as giving the opportunity to students sometimes they just need someone who will sit and listen to them, you need to adapt to become that person. Often at my placement when a child has been involved in a physical intervention, when they
