TDA 3.1
Learning Outcome 1: 1.3 Task 3
Explain how you would respond in a way that built a positive and supportive relationship and how it may affect the way people involved, may communicate with each other.
Scenario 1 – Being professional
In this case I would tell Mrs Bedford that we are supposed to be professional and that she should try speaking to Amanda. She could maybe give Amanda a copy of her job description and let her know what she could improve on or maybe start doing. I would let Mrs Bedford know that she shouldn’t be speaking about Amanda in the staff room during break time as it isn’t the right thing to do. The information could also get back to Amanda which could make her feel like her work is not appreciated or that Mrs Bedford doesn’t realise the work she is actually doing. Amanda could be disappearing during important and busy times of the day as she could be getting resources for the next lesson or next day. Amanda could also have personal problems of her that she needs to deal with quietly and personally.
If Mrs Bedford continues to talk about Amanda in the staff room and Amanda finds out, it could cause a barrier to communication. Amanda may feel uncomfortable or like she cannot trust Mrs Bedford. Less communication may go on which might cause things to get left till the last minute or not being done at all. Amanda could be told information which she needs to pass on to Mrs Bedford. Such as a child’s medical needs or a reminder that another person is picking up a child after school but because of the barrier she could forget to tell Mrs Bedford and bigger problems could be caused.

Scenario 2 – Social contexts
In this case I would ask the member of staff if she wanted to talk about the situation to myself. If not I would give her advice. I would tell her that she could speak to the head of the department or the head teacher about the situation, how and why she feels that she is not valued or

I would want to provide her with every way to allow her to effectively communicate with her peers and in class. If Sally and her mom would feel comfortable, I would like to educate the class on Sally and her disability. I feel this would help the students become more sensitive to Sally when she is trying to communicate. If Sally was becoming frustrated with tasks that she was unable to complete, I would provide alternative ways in helping her accomplish her work. I would also want Sally to feel welcome and a part of my class. I would want her to feel that she can tell me if something wasn’t working for her and if there was something that she really enjoyed. I would want to create an environment that made her feel as if her disability didn’t define what she could do, but she could adapt situations to meet the needs of her…
