TDA 2.1
I have fondness for children and I appreciate the invaluable impact that teachers make on the lives of young people. I also realise that the skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom, will be used by young people throughout life. Therefore, as an aspiring teacher, I hope to be a role model that cultivates in young people, the knowledge and ability to look at the world critically, and the belief in ones capacity to make positive contributions to society. This is my key motivation for applying for this position.
Due to my love for helping and supporting others I chose to broaden my knowledge of teaching experience by becoming a Sunday school teacher in my church. I feel that my experiences as a mother of three and my encounter with young children both in educational and religious environments have been both personally satisfying and beneficial to the children I worked with.
In addition to my enthusiasm for investing in young lives, I have done some volunteering as a teaching assistant to get some hands-on classroom experience for formal teaching. My experience at the school allowed me to acquire a number of skills and also help enhance my weaker ones. The key skills and strength that I possess for success include my enthusiasm and dedication to my assigned duties and my ability to support and inspire young people through being a good listener to them and offering appropriate advice. I am also highly skilled in assisting the instructor in supervision of students’ arrival and departure time, performing clerical and record keeping tasks and maintaining discipline of the classroom in the absence of the instructor. One of my greatest strengths is helping maintain a well-disciplined learning environment, with minimal interruptions and maximum productivity. This is achieved by pulling misbehaving students aside, reinforcing positive behaviour, and implementing a reward system.
I am a graduate of Mass Communication from Institute of Management & Technology and had worked as a journalist from 2002 to 2004 in Enugu Nigeria before giving up the career to focus on family life. Presently I work as a volunteer reading helper for Save the Children.
I have many interests outside academia and spend my leisure time listening to a diverse range of music genres, going to cinemas, walking, reading around history and socializing with friends.
Most importantly, my ability to work well with others, motivate and inspire is a very significant contribution that I am confident I can bring to the job and into the classroom.

The amount of time children spend in school is substantial; as a result, teachers become familiar and play a very important role in a child’s life. Although a desire to teach is not fundamental it undeniably helps. Having a desire for teaching will encourage characteristics such as enthusiasm and compassion, which will have positive effects on a child’s learning abilities and behaviour. Although it is legally a teacher’s responsibility to ensure a child’s safety at all times, these characteristics are necessary in primary school teaching as it will build a positive learning environment and a child will feel secure and in a safe environment. My plans have taken longer to reach then I anticipated but I now have the opportunity to reach those dreams to nurture and motivate my student just as Mrs. Lawrence did. Over the years, I have worked with many wonderful people that have made a difference in my life. Time passes by like a shooting star passing the sky in just a blink of an eye; the last few years have been especially good for me. Through my years of teaching I have worked with kids from different backgrounds and kids with different beliefs. I have seen cases of bullying and I have helped my students with these problems. I enjoyed spending time with my grade three children, we read stories together and I have learnt a lot from them. At the start of my fifty years I was asked “why did you choose to be a teacher?”I answered that I like teaching and learning, I said being a teacher is a safe job and I like kids; my motive has still not changed. I am motivated by the successes I achieve with the kids and the joy I get from working with kids. This motivation helps me get out of bed with a smile on my face every morning knowing that I am going to a place where I find happiness.…

I’ll begin with my interview with my mother, a third grade teacher for the past fifteen years, in a low socioeconomic school district. I sat down with her and asked her to share her insight that might help me continue my journey as an up and coming educator. I asked her, ‘what is the best part of being a teacher?’ She responded, ‘every day you feel that you have made a difference in a child’s life. Whether it is teaching them to read, enhancing their social skills or celebrating their achievements – you know that you mattered. When it’s the end of the day and kids say ‘I want to stay here in school – it’s so much fun!’ you know you are the one that got them to love to learn.’ When discussing this with my mother is made me look back at my experiences and helped me to anticipate the fulfillment of student success and the joy of learning. This made me understand the importance of teaching and how teachers impact…
