1 Walmart (United States)

1.1 Find out whether your company has a formal mission statement. Does this statement define the business, identify major goals and articulate the corporate philosophy?

Walmart is a multinational retail corporation that runs chains of large discount department stores all over the world. The company has over two million employees and is the largest retailer in the world.
Walmart has a clear and formal mission statement. The statement of Walmart is: “Save money. Live better”. They use this mission statement also as an advertising slogan so that everyone would understand the philosophy of Walmart.
The factors Saving Money and Better life are indirectly connected to each other. They lower the prices to make the life of their clients better. People can buy more, what gives a positive effect on their life.
The most important part of their mission statement is people. Walmart’s major goals are based on the positive effect on people. Some quotes Walmart keeps in mind are:
"We save people money so they can live better."
“If we work together, we’ll lower the cost of living for everyone…we’ll give the world an opportunity to see what it’s like to save and have a better life.”
The corporate philosophy is connected to these statements. So the company has some clear policies, principles and procedures that goes along with their philosophy. We will sum up some of these statements:

Open door policy: Every managers door is open for every employee.

10-foot rule: You need to make eye contact, greeting and helping people who come within 10 feet.

Sundown Rule: Every stakeholders’ question has to be answered before sunset.

The Walmart Cheer : This is an actual chant that was created by the founder Sam Walton to cheer up the employees in the morning.
