Task One Tropical Rainforest
Conservation of the Tropical Rainforest at the Singapore Botanic Gardens The Tropical Rainforest at Singapore Botanic Gardens is 6 hectares of rainforest that has been conserved since Botanic Gardens opened. From the Botanic Gardens founding in 1857, the staff there have been conserving, collecting and documenting the rainforest for 150 years now***. Once, the rainforest started dying out, due to environmental conditions and death of trees. NParks Conservation Branch helped, and the rainforest was saved****.
But why should we continue conserving it?
More than 50% of the species in this patch of rainforest represent plants that are rare in Singapore**. Apart from housing rare plants in
Singapore, the tropical rainforest is the home of wildlife and tropical birds*.
I think we can all do our part in conserving the Tropical Rainforest. If we chop it down, we are losing regenerative sources of fuel, hope of curative medicines, and new species****. The rainforest is a thing to be conserved. Credits

OBSERVATION: Tropical rain forests are so far from Arizona they are almost mythical. We think of flocks of colorful birds, steaming undergrowth, bouquets of orchids, man-eating fish, leaping monkeys, and native people, some of whom may be headhunters. These impressions are great to watch on Animal Planet, but most of us in the developed world feel little direct connection with these strange and distant forests. However, the truth is every one of us has touched a rainforest today.…

Rainforest store vast quantities of water but when deforestation happens, the stores water is lost. Since trees and plants are responsible for the extraction of groundwater from soil and then returning it back into the atmosphere where clouds are produced (transpiration), deforestation results in the water not being able to be released back into the atmosphere which affects the balance of water (transpiration rate decreases) . This may lead to dry climates which affects the living conditions of animals due to the lack of production for rainwater.…

The issue of conservation has been discussed, dissected, and debated over for centuries by people who understand that endlessly destroying habitats and over-hunting species inevitably leads to permanent damage that affects everyone. Sure, there have been major milestones in the efforts to stabilize natural habitats such as Theodore Roosevelt's actions in creating national parks and protecting 230 million acres of land, but it will have to take a worldwide effort in order to secure the biosphere (“Theodore Roosevelt and Conservation”). So it would then be key for people to firmly and completely protect rainforests that are scattered throughout the globe in order to preserve such a diverse piece of the planet. A well planned system aimed towards…

Over half of the Amazon is located in Brazil but also in South American countries; Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Guyana, Bolivia and Suriname. (Science Kids, 2013). During the past 40 years, 20% of the Amazon rainforest has been cut down, this percentage could be higher but was not put in account due to logging.this causes damage and shows that there is less seen cuts. Scientists says that 20% trees could be lost in the next two decades. (National Geographic, 1996) The Amazon gets worse and worse every time it is observed. The main cause for this is deforestation. This investigation will show what is happening to the Amazon Region and what could be the management for it.…

The Amazonian Rainforest consists of an expansive 350 million square acres smack in the middle of Brazil and many other countries. It is the largest rainforest in the world and is home to hundreds of indigenous species of plants and animals. However Brazil’s developing status is endangering the rainforests existence. It is currently reported that 500,000 trees are cut down every hour, and the country is losing anywhere from 20,000 to 100,000 species a year. To many this is unacceptable and the amazon should be protected, others believe that operations should continue as is. In reality the Amazon Rainforest needs to be developed in a sustainable manner because the rainforest is home to many species and is detrimental to global health, Brazil…

In the Amazon Rainforest, new research is being done that has completely changed the way that we now see the Amazon. European accounts from centuries ago, tell of large Amazonian cities all up and down its banks. This idea was thought to be untrue due to finding that the Amazon soils were not actually fertile at all. But, that idea is now being challenged, with the finding of, terra preta. The reason that I decided to choose this topic is because I think it needs much more attention than it is given. Until this class, I had zero knowledge of Native Americans living in the Amazon at all. Therefore, I choose this topic because it has gone through large amounts of change in recent years and deserves more concentration. Lastly, this topic both…

Deforestation is an issue we need to fix. I would like to spend 100,000 dollars on deforestation because some of the trees that are being cut down are thousands of years old. “Any fool can destroy trees”(John Muir, “The American Forests,” Atlantic Monthly, August, 1897) Above all this, one fact remains the same, we need trees to live. If we destroy all the trees in the world, we are left with harsh living conditions for ourselves. Our forests should be preserved if we want a better nation.…
