Introduction
To compete with companies such as Wal-Mart and Amazon, Target has become one of the only retailers to embrace the coaching model. According to the textbook, coaching is a “high directive-high supportive style” where a “leader focuses communication on both achieving goals and meeting the followers socioemotional needs.” The implementation of a coaching model within Target has the potential to affect engagement, guest experience, performance, sales, and team members’ quality of life. All of these, if influenced positively, can give Target an advantage over competitors.
As a team, we have been tasked with the prospect of creating an action plan to implement a new coaching system into nine pilot stores in one specific district. The
