Tap Water Vs. Bottled Water
It is no secret that bottled water costs more than tap water, but is it reasonable to state it costs 1,000 times more? It is very difficult to give an exact number for the difference between the two, but 1,000 to 2,000 times more is a reasonable estimate. This is based on the fact that on average, a gallon of bottled water costs $1.22. Protesters against bottled water industries use the highest prices of water bottles they can find as a way to show a bigger contrast between the two, essentially dissuading consumers from buying. Whether it’s by using the “fanciest” imported water, to using bottles that are larger and contain more water, to using packages of bottled water, each variable makes the price differences very difficult to distinguish.

I’ve always preferred bottled water to tap water because of the taste. Bottled water always tasted fresher and cleaner. According to document 2 it states, “Once the water enters the bottled water plant several processes are employed to ensure that it meets the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) purified water standard.” This shows that even though it tastes clean, it goes through many processes so it can meet the potential of the FDA. Unlike tap water, bottled water does not contain any chlorine. In document 1, the chart shown says tap water contains chlorine and often times fluoride. While people may think bottled water is more expensive than tap water, it is not true. Tap water to put in piping, or even get a well dug can cost thousands of dollars. Compare that to when a person buys a Tumblr off of amazon for around five to eight dollars, and then gets a gallon jug of Zephyrhills water at around two dollars. The person would then proceed to use that cup to keep filling it up with the gallon jug. This costs about 97% less than getting tap water. Bottled water is more efficient to people’s…

Bottled water flows with many issues. The most important issue is the health impact not only for humans, but for watersheds. Bottled water companies pump 75 gallons per minute in some places (Hopey). Bottling companies take water from different areas that sometimes need the water for municipal uses. For example in the small town, Bakersville, the bottling company in Somerset County wants to come in and bottle up the water from Laurel Hill Creek that supports it. By bottling the water in this small river, the water levels are dropping, which is causing fish and other species to die off (Hopey). In this small river there is a fish hatchery, which breeds a breed of salmon that is close to being an endangered species. By drawing too much water, the fish in this hatchery won’t survive and all the efforts will be lost. In addition the water is being consumed faster than the regions near the bodies of water can replenish the water tables. Examples where this is being seen is in the Great Lakes are and Texas. Farmers and Fishermen are directly affected by these drops.(Arnold)…

Tap water is better than bottled water because of the reduction of waste. According to National Geographic, “The U.S. public goes through about 50 billion water bottles a year, and most of those plastic containers are not recycled”. Those water bottles end up going into landfills, in the ocean, or on the side of the road. Water bottles are creating so much waste, it’s going to be deadly to our environment. But with tap water, washable glasses are used. No wasteful plastic is used, just reusable containers. To keep the Earth a suitable place for life, tap water should be used over bottled water. Tap water is better than bottled water because of the reduction of waste. Instead of 50 billion water bottles destroying the planet, use tap water.…
