Tanglewood Case 1
Tanglewood is a chain of retail department stores that was founded in 1975 by two friends Tanner Emerson and Thurston Wood. The store was started by a concept named, TannerWood, which was a store that sold outdoor clothing and equipment. They two paired themselves together to create Tanglewood. The goal for the store is to be the best department store for customers that thrive on customer service, quality, value and durability. All of which helps the department store be successful. The department store fits in the industry of selling consumer goods which includes a variety of clothing, small appliances, electronics and household goods. The company has over 3 trillion in annual revenue. The company compared to other competitors in that market is holding its own and growing at 14.2 percent. The competitors that are similar to Tanglewood are Kohl’s and Target who market to middle to upper class customers; who want products that are priced well and sell value. The company sells value in their trademark look which involves outdoor theme. Structure and Employee Makeup
The company uses an organizational hierarchy for their employees. The management at each store consist of three Assistant Managers one for Softlines, Hardlines, and Operations/Human Resources. Department Managers are in charge of specific product groups for clothing, jewelry, and shoes with additional shift leaders who complete most of the task as store associates in addition to administrative duties. There is also Store Manager and Regional Manager who help with the higher up decisions to help the stores run effectively. Culture and Values
