Advantages of living in the Tampa Bay Area

What a unique spot of geography that the Tampa Bay Area truly is. It is a peninsula that is attached to a larger peninsula (which would be the state of Florida) with a huge natural harbor. The Tampa Bay Area also rests along the warm Gulf of Mexico that holds rich and diverse Ecology. These factors bring many advantages to living in Tampa Bay Area when it comes to enjoying the great outdoors, especially outdoor water activities. One has instant access and many options when deciding to pursue relaxing or action packed outdoor water activities here. Fishing and kayaking are a couple examples I will use to highlight the advantages this unique geography offers year around. All the while weather hardly impeding upon this fun!

The Tampa Bay Area is a sport fisherman’s paradise. Just within the area there are 200 species of fish and many types of shellfish. In-shore fishing is a dream because the waters are comprised of shallow sea grass beds, mud flats and mangroves; these environments are perfect feeding grounds for many popular gamefish like, Redfish, Sheephead , Snook and Seatrout. I would compare the Tampa Bay Area waters like a fully stocked kitchen for all the Gulf marine life; High tide is the dinner bell and all the fish come running in from deeper water for mealtime! With so much coastline that has a generous amount of piers and bridges sprinkled along it, it’s never hard to catch a bite even if a boat isn’t at your disposal. Off the outer Gulf shores, deep-sea fishing is readily available and very popular here. Many fishing charters businesses thrive here in the Bay Area because the waters are teeming with wildlife and people want to get in on the action. Spearfishing is also another option because of the many dive sites and reefs. The “St. Pete Open” is proof of this; it is the largest spearfishing tournament in the world held right here every year.

The Penascola Gulf Islands in Florida are pretty much your average definition of paradise. The area is known for the most beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise blue waters. The beach stretches for miles along the Gulf of Mexico, full of people constructing hammocks to lie in the warm sun, standing for hours fishing, and many many others jumping around the waves and surfing or swimming in the calm waters. These islands are essentially a strip of land completely surrounded by water, which means you’ll get a good view wherever you go. With many resorts, restaurants, and coastal areas, these islands have all you need.…

I have always wondered why so many people love going to West Palm Beach and Tallahassee. These two cities are not a skip and hop away from each other, but they are visited by many. These cities have been around for decades and share similarities as well as differences. West Palm Beach is home of many beaches, however Tallahassee has none. What they do have in common is they both are located in Florida, and both cities have are homed to many tourist.…

Everything from Pompano, Snook, Flounder, Lady Fish and Catfish, to the many different types of Snappers are caught easily throughout the day. We have found that in many places you can pull Snappers up one right after another just before the sun goes down. If you have your fire going they make an easy, delicious dinner on the grill, just bring a little aluminum foil and your all set! Another one of the great attractions to kayaking on the Indian River Lagoon is the abundance of wildlife in the area. It is not out of the ordinary to see a pod of dolphins swimming by. Each time they surface they blow air through their blow hole, which can be pretty startling if you weren't aware they were so close. It is quite the sight when they surface near you as you are paddling along, especially because you are at water level with them and they are such impressively large animals. In the winter time, which has perfect weather for kayaking in Florida, there a lot of manatee in the area too. Huge and awesome they look a little intimidating but they are very docile and curious, coming right up to your kayak to get a good look at you. There are also many sting rays in the area along with gigantic sea turtles, we have spotted some at least five foot across, with a head that is bigger than a…

If you are hoping to go a little offshore to fish, you will have more chance to catch grouper, snappers, and sharks. There are also other types of fish as well. However, it is important that you keep in mind that the water around Crystal River and Homosassa Springs does have areas where water drops slowly. In some areas you can expect to go a mile out and still only be in a foot of water. Ten miles out could mean you are sitting in ten feet of water. Twenty miles, twenty feet. The deeper you go into the Gulf, the more likely you will be to catch the biggest fish you have ever brought onto your…

To begin, Florida known as “the sunshine state” hooks you in as soon as you enter the state. The beautiful palm trees blowing in the wind, the numerous orange groves you see from the roadside and the welcome center offering fresh squeezed orange juice makes you feel so at home. There are so many beautiful exotic looking flowers in the landscaping of homes and businesses. Of course, the warmer climate is the main attraction in Florida. The annual average high is 79F degrees and the average low is 57F degrees. Snow rarely falls in most of Florida, but has on occasion in the northern peninsula. Florida also has an abundant annual rainfall especially during the months of June through September. In addition, Florida is located between the Atlantic Ocean and The Gulf of Mexico, therefore it also has exceptionally high humidity and of course there is always a chance of hurricanes as well. Undoubtedly, both of these items are a major downfall to me.…

A fine strip of coral reefs, sand bars, and barrier islands lies in the Atlantic Ocean, slightly offshore from Florida’s mainland. Lagoons, rivers, bays, and lakes rest among much of this strip and Florida’s mainland. Big Cypress Swamp and the Everglades cover most of southern Florida. Despite the several hurricanes that have occurred in Florida the past couple years, I think it's safe to say that Florida can also be a pleasant place to live. With its mostly sunny weather, friendly disposition, and many exciting attractions, Florida almost doesn't seem like the type of place to have such horrific weather at times. I, personally, even after knowing so many good qualities about the sunshine state, still am not convinced that Florida would be a nice place to live.…
