Taming Of The Shrew Act 2 Scene 1
Different Interpretations of Taming of the Shrew - Act 2, Scene 1 (The wooing Scene)

Since there are so many different adaptations of Taming of the Shrew, there are quite a lot of differences when you see it, then when you read it. Especially when you try to imagine the Wooing Scene, in Act 2 Scene 1. Here are a few main differences I noticed in two of the different adaptations I watched:

* Gaudete Academy 2010 Production (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaebQOnnHMU)

* Petruchio was a little scared of Katherina when he first met her * Katherina was a lot more harsh, physically * Instead of dialogue with words, they made Petruchio speak and Katherina act with facial expressions and basically actions.
Petruchio: You lie in faith. For you are called Kate. Plain Kate. Bonny Kate. And sometimes Kate the curst.

So Kate’s actions made it seem like dialogue * There is so much more physical abuse, than verbal abuse
Petruchio: My super dainty Kate.
(Katherina pushes him off the stage) * They change some words and sentences, so the audience understand the jokes and puns * A lot of interaction with the audience
Petruchio: Take this of me, Kate of my consolation: Hearing thy… hearing thy… Uh, help?
What’s that sir? *Harpy* Hearing thy Harpyishness praised in every town * Taming of the Shrew (1976)
* Baptista acts a little evil when Petruchio asks for Kate’s hand in marriage * Petruchio acts a lot more rude, physically * Katherina struggles with Petruchio a lot

Shakespeare uses various methods to make the “taming” of Kate comical. For example, when Petruchio and Kate first meet in Act 2, Petruchio toys with Kate by doing the complete opposite of what she wants and says. For instance, when Petruchio calls her “Kate”, she replies with “They call me Katherine that do talk of me” (2.1.180) After Kate has stated that she does not wish to be referred to as “Kate”, Petruchio continues to disobey by calling her “Kate” a further 10 times. A modern audience may find this scene amusing as Kate has not been physically hurt, but teased and mocked which is common within modern comedies.…

She starts to grow up as she wears short dresses and high heels, like “Garbo”, or “Madonna” as Eddie describes her as. Even so, her first sight of Rodolpho brings wonder and delight. From the moment the two men enter, Catherine shows no interest in Marco, only Rodolpho. She comments on how blond Rodolpho is “he’s practically blond!”. When she asks Rodolpho if he is married, her question may be just a request for information but the audience will feel that there is something deeper going on here “You married to?”. Her interest increases when she discovers he can sing, and Rodolpho shows his first real connection with Catherine when he accedes to her request to sing 'Paper Doll'. She is awestruck by him and very impressed with his singing “it’s…

Women are equal to men. Doesn't it balance out? Unfortunately in society, they aren't treated that way. One example of this is in the play 'Taming of the Shrew' as it displays women as the lesser sex, with male lead Petruchio placing a bet on his ability to 'tame' Katherine, a mean bat, but also his future wife.…

“10 Things I Hate About You” as well as “The Taming of the Shrew” are very similar to each other and that the “10 Things I hate about you” is based off “The Taming of the Shrew”. One similarity that I can point out right away is that at the end everything was a happy ending and everyone got there “loved one”…

especially around his eldest daughter Katherine. Also in the play, Katherine has a slightly different attitude. In the play she is a compassionless, cold-hearted woman until the very end of the play. But in the movie she shows a warmer side a bit earlier. Once, after evading Petruchio the first time she goes into a fit of laughter. And again while helping Petruchio’s servants clean the house with a smile on her face. Another gaping difference lies with the character Christopher Sly. Sly is a drunkard who is fooled into believing he is a fine lord, in the play anyway, but in the movie he is not mentioned at all.…

In the story, “The Taming of the Shrew” written by William Shakespeare, exists a character named Katherine who lives in Padua. She is quickly adapted as an impolite and ill-behaved young woman. Their father won’t let her younger sister, Bianca, get married until Katherine does first. Her stubbornness and negative attitude makes it nearly impossible to stay in that kind of a relationship. However, Bianca is a much more likable person who have multiple men waiting to marry her. These men will stop at nothing to free Bianca from the prison she is trapped in.…

Hearing that I had to read The Taming of the Shew, I was not enthusiastic at all. I read the play previously in my eighth grade literature class, years ago, and I have not been a Shakespeare fan since then. Also, if I had the power to ban Shakespeare from any educational curriculum, then I probably would. I believe that Shakespeare belongs in a History class or a class just on Shakespeare, for its dated, old, and not quite fit for many modern English learners like myself.…

A close analysis of the characters can reveal the attitudes and values of the two societies in which the texts, Shakespeare's play, The Taming Of The Shrew, and Junger’s film, 10 Things I Hate About You, were composed. An investigation of the Protagonists in each text, Katherina and Petruchio, and Kat and Patrick allows an insight into the attitudes and values of the societies in which each text was set.…

His plan first takes form when they receive dinner and Petruccio claims the dish tastes burned and then proceeds to knock the whole dinner off the table in a fit of frustration. He does all of this as a plan to starve Kate without actually telling her he will not let her eat. He plans to do the same thing with her sleep and he explains the whole plan when he says, “She ate no meat today, nor none shall eat/ She slept not, nor tonight she shall not/… That is all done in reverent care of her/ And in conclusion she shall watch all night,/ And if she chance to nod I’ll rail and brawl/ And with the clamour keep her still awake./ This is a way to kill her with kindness,/ and thus curd her mad and headstrong humor.” (The Taming of the Shrew…
