I 've selected to talk about synthetic drugs because it 's one of the fastest growing drugs in the world. Drugs like spice which is a synthetic form of marijuana has been growing. In the military we 've had serious issues trying to detect the chemicals use in a monthly urinalysis. The problem with synthetic drugs is each person that produces it uses different products.
It 's hard to determine what 's exactly in the product. Synthetic drugs are created in laboratories as derivatives and analogues of a parent drug like cathinone or cannabis(Arnold,2013). These drugs started out as being legal drugs and in some country they still are legal. These drugs are harmful and there must stance by governments to prevent the import sale and use.
Many country have started to ban the substance due to the severe effects that it has had on people. A teen from Sydney, Australia, had taken a synthetic form of the hallucinogen LSD and thought he could fly. The teen jumped off a balcony and died(Arnold,2013). These synthetic drugs are not natural and there man made with different harmful chemicals. People have no idea what there smoking or injecting into themselves.
Many of the producers of these drugs are finding ways around the law by using substances that are not banned by the law. There able to order substances from countries like China or India(Arnold,2013). This is a huge issue because the product are not necessarily illegal so punishing someone for the use of these drugs are hard to do. Many law enforcement personnel are trying to clean up the selling of these drugs but prosecuting someone has not been established yet.
