"My house has been destroyed multiple times," is the quotes of people who have been affected by tornadoes and hurricanes each year. At up to 150 m.p.h. (Source 4), hurricanes are deadly, and definitely with tornadoes who sweep in at a whopping 300 m.p.h. (Source 3)! These storms are life-threatening! Their characteristics, cost and damage, and their formation have a lot to do with their danger that can approach on you when you least expect it to. If you live in a mid-western state, you may be in harm's way for tornadoes (Source 2). Although, if you live in gulf states or even around gulf states, you may in danger of a hurricane (Source 2)! There are many ways to prepare for a hurricane or a tornado, and one way is just to know information about them. This could save your life!
The reason that is so important is because you will know if your hometown is affected by these storms often, based on their location. Tornadoes are more effective in the mid-west states United States, while hurricanes are more effective in gulf states in the U.S. like Alabama and Louisiana. Plus, since a hurricane is so large, surrounded states get affected, too. Other states are able to get these terrible storms, but these are the states that mostly get them, the other states rarely get them (Source 2). Hurricanes form in South Africa and work their way towards our southern states. They form an eye in the middle. Meteorologist, Spencer Adkins, WOWK, Channel 13 News states that the eye is the calmest part of the storm with blue skies, sunshine, and light winds above, a perfect day for the pool. He also stated that a tornado can form inside hurricanes, ruining the blue skies and sunshine! On the other and hand, tornadoes are formed, and they attacked in our mid-western states like Kansas and Oklahoma. Surprisingly, Texas is in the way of both!
