The symbol of the mockingbird, with its associated ideas of a fragile, albeit beautiful innocence appears when Atticus tells Jem and Scout they may shoot all the bluejays they want, "but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird". This is the first time Scout has ever heard Atticus say it was a sin to do something. The full significance of this remark is explained to Scout by Miss Maudie as she explains that mockingbirds "do nothing but sing their hearts out for us", making music for the enjoyment of everyone in Maycomb. They represent a type of gentle and harmless creature. Throughout the text, Lee reiterates that to kill a mockingbird would be wicked and spiteful, a senseless and pointless act of destruction.…

Foreshadowing - One form of foreshadowing in this novel is when Scout finds the bubble gum in the tree (page 44) . This event foreshadows the interaction between Jem, Scout and Boo, as Boo is putting those presents in the tree for Jem and Scout to find. Another instance of foreshadowing is when Jem finds his pants mended for him when he goes back to get them on page 76. We find out they were fixed for him afterwards on page 78 and when Jem states that “They’d been sewed up. Not like a lady sewed ‘em.-“ ; this foreshadows the care of Boo Radley for Jem and Scout . We see later on, during the fire, that Boo cares for Scout when he places the blanket upon her. The last instance of foreshadowing…

When he sees the dog he tells Heck to kill the dog. “ Don’t waste time, Heck,” said Atticus “Go on.” “ Mr.Finch, this is a one-shot job.” Atticus shook his head vehemently” this quote shows that Atticus didn’t want to shoot the dog, but then “ the rifle cracked” Atticus shot the dog. In all the texts that had been covered in this semester, it seems that “Mockingjay” has provided relatively easier and comparable examples about responsibility. In this novel, the author’s idea of being an accountable person should make decisions to serve themselves as well as others. Besides, the writer emphasizes that it is very important for us to keep a balance between taking accountability for oneself and others. In order to become more successful, we should learn our own limitations and be responsible for ourselves before we can be responsible for others.…

She uses the symbol of the mockbird to represent two of the main characters. Atticus says, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the backyard, but I know you’ll go after birds. Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” The author uses this quote to introduce Tom Robinson. Tom represents the mockingbird because he was falsely accused of assault and put away in jail. Tom was a kind innocent person that only brought good to the world, and when he was prosecuted it was as if they killed a mockingbird. Miss Maudie then explains the phrase said by Atticus, “Mockingbirds don’t do one thing except for make music for us to enjoy, they don’t eat up people's gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don't do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. Thats why its a sin to kill a mockingbird.” Harper Lee also uses Boo radley as a symbol of the mockingbird because Boo has been secluded in his home for most of his life, the town folks made rumors that Boo was crazy, mental, and psycho. Boo is a mockingbird because when he killed Bob Ewell it was to protect the children and telling the town of what he did would only add ges to the fire. The author used the symbol of the mocking bird to introduce…

In fact that’s how he and Reuven met, every day Danny wears a black caftan and hat, never shaves, and speaks with a Yiddish accent. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird the author Harper Lee uses symbol to show the theme coming of age involves recognizing different perspectives. The great thing about having a symbol in the writing is that you might not figure out that something is a symbol until the end of the book or until someone explains the significance to you. For example, the term “to kill a mockingbird is a sin” comes up multiple times in the book as a symbol telling Scout and Jem not to bother innocent people. This symbol shows that coming of age involves recognizing different perspectives because Jem and Scout did not notice that they were bothering Arthur Radley until Atticus told them that maybe he just likes to be by himself and that they should not try to get him out when he is doing nothing bad to them or anyone else. He was basically being a mockingbird because he did nothing to cause harm and he was there to help when he saw someone in need…
