Have you ever taken a moment to think about what a movie actually means, though? I’m Here by Spike Jonze is such an inspiring movie. The two main actors include a boy robot, Sheldon, and a girl robot, whose name was never mentioned. The movie was set in a run-down town where robots were known as the underclass workers. In the beginning, it showed how miserable the robots were and how awful the robots were treated. Sheldon did not know how to have fun and look at the bright side of life until he met the girl robot. Symbolism is scattered throughout the movie. When Sheldon and the girl robot meet, the scene shows the girl robot putting up drawings of a girl with the words saying “I’m here”. The “I’m here” symbolizes how the girl robot does not get noticed because she is a robot living a human’s world. She is trying to get herself out there and noticed by the people. The “I’m here” relates to the theme because it shows how Sheldon notices her when no one else does. This means that Sheldon did not care if she was a nobody; he still cared and loved her for who she is. Also, this is shows you do not need to change yourself to find someone; someone will love you for who you are. Another way the director used symbolism in the short film was when the director showed the scene where Sheldon walks into his apartment and there were rat sculptures everywhere. The mother and father rat sculptures were in Sheldon’s bed. In Sheldon’s living room, there was a father rat sculpture reading a newspaper, and little baby rat sculptures all around the floor. The girl robot chose to show her affection to Sheldon through rats, because the rats were a symbolism of themselves, robots. Rats are a very unwanted animal through human's’ eyes. The rats do not get any attention or appreciation like the robots. The rat sculptures symbolize how Sheldon and the girl robots love life was progressing no matter what the people think about them. Also, it shows the girl robot wants to move on with the relationship and have a family one day. This symbolism shows the theme by demonstrating how in love they are, how far their relationship has progressed, and how far they want the relationship to
