Symbolism In An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge

Love Is Strong In EverybodyLove is a strong symbol of showing somebody that you care and want to everything that you can for them. Having love for somebody would mean you would try to do anything and everything you can just to see that person be happy. When you’re missing a person you will feel like you are empty inside and wishing you could just hug and see that person again. I know everybody is missing or has missed somebody before, especially the people who are gone for a certain amount of time. Like the men and women who fought in war and could not see the people they loved, they missed them terribly. Maj. Sullivan Ballou was a soldier in the civil war and while he was away and fighting in the war he wrote a letter to his wife. He stated how much he loved and miss her while he was gone and fighting. “Sarah, my love for you is deathless, it seems to bind me with mighty cables that nothing but Omnipotence could break;”(Maj. Sullivan Ballou July 14, 186) He wanted to see her again and give all he had just to see her. Unfortunately, Sullivan was killed a week after he wrote the letter to Sarah. He still had a ton of love for her and wrote how much he loved her in the letter.
His threat was he wanted to tear down the old bridge. Peyton was taken from his family in Alabama to the old bridge. Due to him wanting to tear down that bridge he getting ready to be killed by getting hung below the bridge. “He closed his eyes in order to fix his last thoughts upon his wife and children.”(Pg. 2/6 Ambrose Bierce) Peyton had thoughts about his wife before he was hanged, he loved them and wanted to think about them before he was killed.“The thought of him losing his wife and children urged him on.”(Pg. 6/6 Ambrose
