Swot - Analysis Google Inc.
Abstract
For this SWOT analysis I chose Google because for me it is a very interesting company and one of the world´s biggest and most successful ones. The first thing that everyone comes to mind, hearing the word Google, is search engine. But Google is much more. One of their strengths for example is Android, the operating system for Smartphone’s. It is remarkable what Google reached since 2007, the year of establishment. A weakness I wrote about is the unprofitable products it developed over the years. Being innovative is not always a warranty for being successful. One opportunity of Google is obtaining of patents by acquisitions. Google did that very well by the acquisition of Motorola. So it got even more competitive in the mobile market. A threat I pointed is that Google has many strong competitors, especially in the mobile market what has a big future and makes it even more necessary to stay competitive.

“Don´t be evil”,
Nowadays it is almost unthinkable that this is the guideline of one of the biggest and most successful companies in this dog-eat-dog society. We talk about the search engine Google, which was established by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in September 1998 with the name Google Inc. in Menlo Park North, California. (Google Inc., 2009)
It all started in the years 1996 as a scientific project of two guys enthused by computers. Larry Page wanted to analyze the structure of the WorldWideWeb for his doctorial thesis. Together with Sergei Brin he developed a mathematical model which accentuates the meaning of the links – related to the principle that academic texts of a researcher are particularly fundamental, if many other scientists quote them. (Search Engine, 2010) But beside the search engine Google is much more. In 2000 Google developed the advertising system AdWords which is still the biggest source of income of Google. In 2003 the second important source of income was founded, AdSense. It works like AdWords do but only on

The birth of Google was in 1998 by two young doctoral students from Stanford University, Sergey Brin and Larry Page. They dropped out of Stanford to start up their business. In the mid-1990s searching on the internet was not efficient and time consuming. Therefore search engines helped with organizing the internet like yahoo and Alta Vista. They still did not perfect searching on the internet, so Page and Brin analyzed Web links, and they developed a ranking system for searching on the internet, that depended on the relevance to the object of the search. They first made this search engine available to students and faculty on Stanford campus, by word of mouth. It was very successful on campus, and required capital to grow their venture. With the help of one of their professor they found an investor who invested $100,000 dollars. They were able to incorporate the company to Google Inc. Many other invested in their company, and finally two venture capital firms invested $25 million, Kleiner Perkins and Sequoia Capital. With the growth of the company the revenues that were expected were not enough for the growing company. Brin and Page decide on using advertising to increase revenue. They were very strict with the standard of the advertisement meaning size and type of ads. The ads that had an association with the search would pop up. They did not run ads unless they had something to do with your search. This was very smart for Google to design this type of advertisement, because it focused on a market that was interested in that type of advertisement. This was called target advertisement. Instead of focusing on a large number of people like TV, Google focuses on a targeted market those who seeked ads with a particular search for the individual user. During the 2000 hardship in the internet, many companies laid off and bankrupted, but Google stood strong, and continued to grow. They also acquired…

The Google Corporation is one of the biggest and most popular search engines on the internet. Larry Page who was 24 and Sergey Brin whom was 23 did not like one another when they first met as college students at Stanford University in 1995. They disagreed with every topic they discussed, except their major, computer science. Larry enjoyed building electronics and he gained some notoriety for building a printer completely out of Lego blocks. In their dorm room when they first met to discuss their plans for creating an internet search engine they came up with a company called backrub. Backrub gave back links to web sites. A year later the idea was doing well and people were using it all round campus.…

Google began as a research project in January 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two Ph.D. students at Stanford University, California. They hypothesized that a search engine that analyzed the relationships between websites would produce better results than existing techniques, which essentially ranked results according to the number of times the search term appeared on a page. Originally the search engine used the Stanford University website with the domain google.stanford.edu. Google is now an American Public Corporation specializing in Internet searching and online advertising. The domain google.com was registered on September 14, 1997, and the company was incorporated as Google Inc. on September 7, 1998 at a friend's garage in Menlo Park, California. The Google search engine attracted a loyal following among the growing number of Internet users, who liked its simple design. After quickly outgrowing two other sites, the company leased a complex of buildings in Mountain View at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway from Silicon Graphics in 1999. The company has remained at this location ever since, and the complex has since become known as the ‘Googleplex.' In 2006, Google bought the property from SGI for 319 million (Olsen, Google). Google's competitive advantage has been built upon two decisive factors: its innovative technology, and its simplicity. It led in the United States with 47.3% of Web searches in the month of May compared with Yahoo at 20.9% and MSN at 13.6%. Google's management techniques have proven to be fruitful. One of their "10 Golden Rules" -Google's compilation of ten rules which help motivate their employees - is place employee's in the same or even different departments in close quarters to allow them to communicate, which in turn, makes coordination extremely efficient. Google runs a unique and exceptional work atmosphere, from its constant technological advances to its friendly work environment; Google's future…

As with its technology, Google has selected to ignore standard wisdom in designing its business. Google started with seed money from angel investors and brought together two venture capital firms that are competing to fund its first equity round. When the dotcom boom exploded, its competitors spent millions of dollars on marketing campaigns to “build brand,” but Google focused instead in quietly building a better search engine. The word rapidly extended from one satisfied use to another. With its google.com site where it has enhanced search technology and high volume of traffic, managers at Google recognized search services and advertising as two initial opportunities for generating revenue (Google, 2007). The company operates the leading search engine that offers targeted search results from more than 8 billion web pages (Hoovers, 2007). Google generates revenue through ads that are targeted by keywords and also sells ads across a network with over 200,000 affiliated websites. Founders Larry Page and Sergy Brin each have nearly about 30% voting control of the company (Hoovers, 2007). Google has its management and leadership well-handled and for this reason it happens that they are among the best-run companies in the technology sector.…

Starting from a friendship’s encounter to create an apparel for free-long distance phone calls in 1972, in which marketing and selling skills of Steve Jobs combined with the technology expertise acquired from a summer internship in Hewlett Packard by Steve Wozniak, Apple Computers Inc. was established on 1976 by the willingness of these two individuals to create a small, practical and user-friendly computer for home usage – with Job’s garage as being the main office, the computer was sold only by its system, meaning that no case, monitor or whatsoever was sold with it (Richardson, 2008). In this industry, Apple is facing several competitors such as, Samsung, Lenovo, Huawei and Sony, but Apple is still the most profitable and largest selling company among all these companies (“ Who are Apple's (AAPL) main competitors in the tech industry?” 2015). In this research I will talk about three competitive advantages; Quality, efficiency, and innovation and a SWOT analysis about Apple company.…
