Superwoman: Debut Albums and Woman
“Superwoman”
Weak, dull, emotional, powerless—these are the words associated with women back in the old days. A woman never had the mind or power to do things her own way. Her duty was just to follow orders, have a family and be a good wife. In other words, do absolutely nothing for herself. Men have overlooked the fact that women can in fact do what men can do, too. As time went by, society has accepted this one true fact: the modern woman is strong, independent and smart, and one woman proves this to me every single day—my mother.
Ever since I was a kid, my mother has always taught me to be strong and brave, no matter how hard a situation is. It doesn’t matter that I’m just a girl; she told me to never let others underestimate who I am. I’m always reminded of this especially since I was not born rich. I always see her working hard just to give our family a good life, alongside my father. She never complained, although I could sometimes feel the weight of her burden; she said that sacrificing for us will never let her down. She never let anyone tell her what to do, especially those who tell her she’s just a woman who should stay with her children and do chores. She chose to work because we are her top priority. Despite all her endeavors, her great love for us was what drove her. And every single day I see her, I’m reminded of the great woman who surpasses even the greatest men.
She may not be the richest woman in the world, but one thing is for sure: she’s the greatest and strongest woman in my world, and she’s the role model everyone should look up to. She is my

Women are not play things. Women are not worldly. Women are not allowed to vote. Women are completely morally upright. Women are sexually chaste and submissive. Women are center and upholder of the household. Women in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century were laden with these societal rules, especially in Victorian communities. According to Kyle Potter of Georgetown College, “women (of this period) measured any spiritual exercise by the extent to which it denied oneself personal comforts and pleasures.” Women were also the ones solely responsible for the raising of the children of the family. With all of this weight and responsibility, women were not even considered strong or independent enough to vote in elections or to work outside…

In a fantasized world like The Odyssey, women can threaten the power of the patriarchy, but in a modernized world like The Catcher in the Rye, women cannot threaten men because they do not hold tangible power. In The Odyssey, women like Helen, have the capability and desire to gain power; Helen exemplifies how women can manipulate men through the use sexulaity to do anything desire, even start a war. Her power over these men not only causes death and destruction, but it also causes endless nights of men missing their wives and just longing for a woman. Unlike The Odyssey, The Catcher in the Rye presents models of women who appear subordinate to men. The average woman in the 1940’s cleans the house, cares for the children, and cooks the dinner. Her life is in the home, leaving her unable to gain power from men. The two situations contrast,…

Unlike Gary Soto in “Looking for work.” I didn’t look to the television to imitate what my idea of a family was. My family included my mother, my brother and my sister and that was enough for me. I never really focused on not having a dad around; it wasn’t as important as having our mom, who was always there for us. Many people believe that to be a productive family there needs to be two parents in the household. However, I know different. My mother was both parents and did just fine as a single mother raising and supporting three kids all by herself. Mom was the nurse that made me feel better whenever I got sick. She was teacher, because she taught me to read and to write. She cared and loved me but also punished…

The older I grow, the more I realize that my mother has always done so much for me. Her love was patient and forgiving in times when I pushed her to her limits as a child. I love my mother, Hester, with all my heart. I remember as a child, being fascinated with the letter A on her bosom. When I was young I was confused about the situation between my parents. I lashed out in anger towards my mother my throwing prickly burrs at her bosom. In doing so, I added to her already thriving pain and guilt. As I grew up and moved away, my mother decided to continue to live in her tiny cottage in Massachusetts. I sent her gifts from England so she can live in luxury as well. I loved her, and she knew she would always be welcome to come live with me in England at any point throughout her life.…

Through out much of history, women have been viewed as the “weaker sex”; women have been seen as less capable physically, socially, intelligently, economically and even religiously. Because of the cruel view that society has on them, women could only perform domestic tasks at home and as such remain obedient to the men their families. During 1450 to 1950, women in various societies around the world were viewed as the “weaker sex” as they are submissive under men’s control in marriage, constrained with an inferior identity, and limited in their daily social activities.…

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. Those who have jobs are thankful whether they are teachers, CPAs or a "team member" at the local McDonalds. My mom is not one of those fortunate enough to have a job. For the past few months, we have lived off her savings, child support, and food stamps. Now things are beginning to get down to the wire. When my mom wakes up in the morning, she puts on her best happy face, gets us ready for our day and returns home to pursue the job search. She knows what bad luck tastes like, what it feels like and what it can do to a pay check. My mom is the definition of bravery in the face of adversity. No one really knows that we are almost out of money. In fact, we like to keep things that way. But when given this assignment I knew that one of the best ways to relate this to my life was to look inside my own four walls. Bravery is "a quality of spirit that enables one to face danger and pain without showing fear." We are in danger of losing our lifestyle. My mom must face the heartache and pain that comes from feeling like she is unable to provide for her family. I help out when I can. Mom has that quality of spirit. She can face the problems of our lives without showing fear. I know she is scared. But she hides it well from me and my young brothers because she is brave, she is strong and with God, she can face this…

"Women" generously uses figurative language to prove that these late 1900's woman were strong. Metaphors are arguably the most significant figurative e language used. Alice Walker writes that these woman " led armies, head ragged generals”, in just these few lines it is clear that Walker was in absolute awe of the women's strength. By comparing women to soldiers, she is implying that they are strong, wise, and powerful. Walker extends this metaphor when she says that these soldiers of women move "across mined field’s booby-trapped ditches… to discover books desks a place for us". Walker is implying that these women have had to fight through obstacles, and fight their battles in order to make sure their children ultimately succeed and have a better life than they were able to have. In these metaphors she is also giving these woman stereotypically manly characteristics, in those early times woman were not allowed nor were they expected to be…

I challenge myself every day to become like my mother and father. I have recently faced a big challenge when my father passed away. In July of 2013, my father died unexpectedly. He had heart disease, which ultimately caused his death, but we didn’t know he had it until after he passed away. This has played a significant role in reminding me who I was raised by and the standards he has set. It has steered me toward proving my parents that I am a hard worker and will carry my culture respectfully throughout my life.…
