Superdome: A Short Story

I’d like to be straight to the point, we weren’t smart, we didn’t listen and now we're stuck here unsure what will happen to us. We were stuck in the middle of hurricane katrina. A few days ago President Bush issued a warning, to make things even worse for us Mayor Nagin issued a mandatory evacuation order. We ignored it and that’s how we ended up where we are. Most people decided to leave, the news had said that less than 100,000 decided to stay. Me and my family decided to stay with our house until the last possible second. Once we couldn’t stay anymore we left but the only place to go was the superdome. Thats where we are setting in the superdome scared for our life. I see my brother, Wayne, laying down on the grass wearing his Aaron Brooks jersey, tossing a football up and down, trying to get his radio going. At first he was pretty excited about getting to be on the superdome grass, but the moment we got in and saw
No one has looked happy here in awhile but as the word goes around everyone's face start to light up. As the day went along rescue helicopters arrived empty and left full. Everyone seemed happier that day. Finally a helicopter came and my family got on. We took off and the joy in everyone's face died as quickly as it came. All of New Orleans was flooded. You couldn’t tell one building from the next. The only thing visible was roofs, and if a building was tall enough you could see a couple of floors. Trees were under water and tipped over. As we were flying no one bothered to ask where we were going. Everyone just silently sat there and stared down at the destroyed city. Every now and then somebody would point out a building. Finally after a long drought of silence the pilot proclaimed “ We’re taking you to the Astrodome in Houston Texas for now, but you’ll be in much better care their, and you’ll be allowed to leave the
