The Monkey’s Paw, written by W.W. Jacobs, is a short story about the consequences of messing with fate. Mr. White is a simple man living with his wife, Mrs. White, and his grown son, Herbert. One evening Sergeant-Major Morris, a family friend back from India, visits them and shows them a monkey’s paw he had gotten there, saying that it will grant a man three wishes, but that it was made to prove that when you mess with fate, bad things happen. Even with the warning, Mr. White uses the monkey’s paw to grant his wishes, and soon pays the price. I think the theme of this story is basically, “Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.”…

The capybara is the largest rodent in the world. The capybara's name comes from the native people of South America. It means "master of the grass." The scientific name of the capybara is hydrochoerus hydrochaeris, which means "water pig" in Greek. Capybaras have been in existence since the Pleistocene epoch. Their ancient ancestors were rodents that lived about sixty million years ago. The average size of a capybara is four feet in length and two feet in height. This is about the size of a sheep. Capybaras usually weigh between sixty and one hundred and forty pounds. Many people think the capybara looks like a larger version of a guinea pig. All capybaras have large flat noses, webbed feet, short legs, and no tail. Their fur is very coarse and it is usually a reddish-brown color. Capybaras also have large incisor teeth that continuously grow. Capybaras must constantly gnaw and chew on wood and nuts to wear their teeth down. To protect themselves from the hot sun, capybaras will often rest in nearby pools of water. They will also be found lying mud or in the shade.…

In the short story and the film version of “A Monkey’s Paw.” by W.W Jacobs, mood is established and changes many times. It is, however, easier to display mood in the film then in the written form. For example, when the White family is sitting amongst the fire, waiting for their guest, it is easier to show that the mood is calm and warm by having the actors sit contently by the fire making small conversation. In the story, W.W Jacobs has to be more descriptive in his writing so the reader can imagine the father and son playing chess as the mother cleans and then take notice of the mood. Another example of mood is when Herbert is brought back from the dead and is knocking on the door. Both versions create suspense, but in two different ways.…

Why do I think Forest Gump was such a successful movie? Three main reasons, first of which is humor. It is a type of humor that makes you feel naughty for laughing at it, as Forest is not trying to be funny. Secondly, because of the plot. The whole story is amazing with twists and turns coming from everywhere and taking Forest to weird and exciting places. Lastly, because of the special effects, they just enhance the movie, which takes it to a different level, and they are done subtlety enough to be believable.…
