Super Bowl Analysis
Tom Brady and the New England Patriots enacted the most extraordinary resurgence in Super Bowl history, triumphing the Atlanta Falcons 34-28, in the first Super Bowl ending in an overtime.
One of the biggest disputes in football is determining who is the greatest player of all time at any given position. Naturally, the leadership positions, like the Quarterback, are debated with even more intensity. Joe Montana and Tom Brady are three quarterbacks frequently designated as “The G.O.A.T,” or greatest of all time. Unsurprisingly, the main statistic focused on in these arguments is Super Bowl wins. Until Super Bowl LI, Joe Montana and Tom Brady were both tied at 4 wins, however, the article states “Brady also became the first quarterback to win

He is to the NFL as Lebron James is to the NBA. He’s the face of the league, the “Golden Boy,” so to speak, so when he was suspended, it caused a lot of commotion within the league. The article says, “Brady, who threw for 466 yards and two touchdowns, shrugged off suggestions that the win amounted to a personal redemption.” According to Tom Brady, the win wasn’t any kind of revenge against the league or Roger Goodell, the NFL’s commissioner and the person most responsible for Brady’s suspension. Many people, including myself, doubt his claim because even though he argued so vehemently for his an innocent verdict in Deflategate, he was still found guilty, and it’s hard to believe that he doesn’t feel any joy in throwing the league's most prized competition back in its face, after missing four games no less. Nonetheless, I found it interesting that someone was able to record his thoughts, true or not. As aforementioned, football is by far my favorite sport, so it would be anticipated that news concerning its most important game and arguably most important player would capture my attention. News regarding football, good or bad, has and always will have a place in my

When it comes to sports, a competitive mindset is key. In American football, it’s hard not to win without communication and teamwork. In the NFL playoffs of 2015, the New England Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts 45-7 for the AFC Championship. In a game that originally portrayed the Patriots as an offensive force to be reckoned with, ended out to be a game that goes down in history. After further investigation, the NFL found 11 of the Patriots' 12 footballs in the game to be underinflated by about 2 pounds below the NFL’s requirement. Now whether the allegations are determined to be true or not, it does raise some speculation about the truth of the AFC champions. The NFL began looking into the issue because modifying the footballs could provide a competitive advantage, compromising the integrity of the game. People might accept this article, Deflategate: An Entire Scandal Based on Insecurity, in Pats Pulpit by Rich Hill as simple journalism that tells the truth, but it actually is attempting to persuade readers into thinking that cheating is tolerable if you’re good at something. Although it seems harmless and inspiring, claiming others have insecurities actually promotes a particular worldview; that maybe it is a larger liberal war on success.…

The Best Game Ever, by Mark Bowden, was a great book that talks about the 1958 NFL Championship game that helped transform the NFL into what it is today. It has exceeded all my expectations of the book and truly shows the impact this game had on the NFL. This was the first ever football game that was a national event, this was the first ever professional football teams viewed by millions. It would also be the first sudden death overtime game ever played in the NFL, Making the game that much more exciting. In 1958 Johnny Unitas, the Colt’s star quarterback and league’s Most Valuable Player award winner, was making $17,500 for the year, five years later Joe Namath would be earning $427,000 for the year, and this stat truly shows the impact this game had on the NFL. The game even had an impact on the author, he and every other kid in the world wanted Johnny Unitas’ high top cleats growing up, everyone wanted to be him. This was the beginning of athletes becoming celebrities in society. I was surprised to see that football wasn’t very popular back then, before this game football was a joke compared to our country’s pastime, baseball. Football is now easily the country’s most popular sport, organizations would grow to be more lucrative and be worth more than many small countries. I did expect the book to talk more about the actual game though, most of the book just talks about the teams and all the players on the team’s lives and what happened leading up to the game. Very little of the book is the actual game, there is also a good amount of the book talking about what happened to the players after the game, unfortunately, half of the players from that great 1958 Colt’s team are no longer around today. The players who are fortunate enough to still be alive today talk very fondly of the team and say it was the time of their lives. The author wrote the book to show others the transformation of the league and how it affected the nation, including himself. The…

These are human beings that have stood out as a superstar in every level of their sports career (Middle School, High School, College, etc.) The average size of a NFL athlete in the 1940s was 5’11 and 198 pounds, which is close to the measurements of todays league’s smallest players. The players in 2012 had an average size of 6’5 and weighed in at 225 pounds, so as you can see there has been a sufficient increase in size and weight. In addition to that, NFL teams have started to introduce very complex playbooks to their players, so you often find that the common stereotype of “unintelligent” football players is slowly diminishing. The players coming into the league in the past couple years have had a substantially higher “football IQ” than those of the players before them (Richard…
