Summary: The Legalization Of Marijuana
Marijuana is a plant that contains the mind-altering chemical delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, as it more commonly known, which is the chemical that when ingested produces a high. Marijuana happens to be the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States today. The National Institute on Drug Abuse says “According to a yearly survey of middle and high school students, rates of marijuana use have steadied in the past few years after several years of increase. However, the number of young people who believe marijuana use is risky is decreasing (Johnston, 2014).” This means that while numbers are staying consistent in use, numbers continue to grow in possible use and all it takes is one person to convert another.     Cannabis, better know as Marijuana, has been around since 2900 B.C. Today, Colorado along with Washington has legalized the recreational use of Cannabis. In 1970, Marijuana was labeled as a schedule one drug that had “no accepted medical use.” In 2013, that myth has been thoroughly shot down as propaganda as we can see by the uprising in Medicinal Marijuana Dispensaries across the country. However, some people still believe the plant is a harmful and a dangerous drug. It is one of the oldest, and most effective natural medicines in human existence.
