Summary Of William Golding's Book 'Lord Of The Flies'
A conflict I found it William Golding’s book Lord of the Flies is the boy's fear of the beast. Jack keeps telling the everyone the beast is isn’t real to make the boys less scared and more willing to make Jack the leader. On page 110 Jack is talking about the Beast not being real. Some boys believe in the beast while the hunters do not. On page 114 a little one is talking about how he saw a monster in the bushes in the middle of the night. This divides the group because the little ones are more scared than the older kids. Finally, Jack makes fun of people who believe in the beast. On page 118 Piggy is talking about how the beast could be hiding but Jack just denies it. This shows he wants people to think he would be a brave leader. In conclusion

    Through their quest of self-knowledge, both novels depict fear. In Lord of the Flies, Jack uses the beast to manipulate the other boys by creating the beast as his tribe’s greatest enemy, idol, and system of belief all together. "Maybe there is a beast . . . .maybe it's only us" (Golding 89). Jack uses the boy's’ fear of the to clear up his control of the group and the violence he causes.     The first boy Jack feared the beast and thought that it actually existed he dealt with his fear in a way that was very aggressive. In the beginning of the book he wanted to kill pigs for meat, everyone agreed with him as they wanted meat. Soon he started getting obsessed with the violence and he would do nothing but hunt pigs.
