Summary Of The World Of Words: A Vocabulary Intervention

It is critical that students are provided interventions that will provide them the learning opportunities in content areas to ensure the students who are lacking prior knowledge and need additional instruction to build on their background knowledge. For example, The World of Words: A vocabulary Intervention program which was designed to increase conceptual understanding and vocabulary, incorporating a variety of media to enhance their understanding. It was directed towards low income families, whom have a disadvantage of exposure to literature and oral interactions, hence impeding the background or prior knowledge. The program was a supplemental program (focus on science) and successfully improved the conceptual understanding and vocabulary.
