The story “The Truth about Truman School” is about Zebby and Amr make a website called www.truthabouttruman.com to write articles like a newspaper and everyone can post whatever they wanted. Their old friend Lilly is being cyberbullied on their site by someone under the name milkandhoney. It got so bad that Lilly ran away for a couple of days. Zebby and Amr went after Lilly and brought her back. Lilly asked milkandhoney to meet and it ended up being someone she bullied in the past. Lilly ended switching schools to get a fresh start and started working on a new website with Zebby and Amr.

    There are certain arguments and concepts presented in The Truman Show that demand attentive analysis and explanation: free will or the illusion therein, a significant god complex, and opposition as an intangible antagonist. Truman is a man imprisoned in his own life. As can be seen throughout the film, there several invisible boundaries that must never be crossed. A specific example is given when a young toddleresque Truman is climbing the rocks at the beach. If allowed to cross the top and to the other side, he would have found a very different environment that, contextually, would not fit in the beach area. It is a representation of one living without true purpose. He lives simply for the amusement of others globally. He lives out mostly real-world occurrences, but like most T.V. shows they render little to no crippling outcomes, save for the “death” of his father.     Where is our freedom of choice? When do we get to decide for ourselves what we are capable of thinking? Who is to tell us what we are supposed to think and what we are supposed to know? These are all questions that only a handful of people in Montag’s world asked. These questions can be tied into our everyday lives. Just look at the education system. They tell one that they are not allowed to say certain things and that thinking certain thoughts is a wrong thing to do. Clarisse says that all their school does is ‘teach you the facts’. Is this not what the education system is doing now? They are trying to fill one’s mind full of non-applicable data so that we can spit it back out for a standardized test for the county’s observation. All some teachers want to see are good test results, all the board wants to see are increasing test numbers from these standardized tests. Why does everything have to be standardized? Testing, testing, and testing. Yes we can spit back information, but can we apply it? How is knowing everything in the world anywhere close to going out and living it?     In the article “Let Teenagers Try Adulthood”, Leon Botstein argues that the American high school is outdated and should be totally rebuilt. The main problem high school system faced with, according to Botstein article, is an overall disintegration of the student culture, which has happened because of the prevalence of social cliques and exponentiations of sport teams over than student culture. Moreover, the early maturity of young people in the late twentieth century has lead to the isolation of hormonally active adolescents, thereby holding teenagers beyond the developmental level. Finally, the poor quality of teacher training is another problem schools should worry about. Giving his points of view about all these problems, Botstein suggest modifying secondary education by giving children a chance to start education at age of four or five and combining middle school and junior high school. School should let students graduate at sixteen instead of eighteen years old and let them indulge their energies in the field of knowledge they want to pursue. Trying to understand what has happened and what could be improved in the educational system, which was one of the best systems in the world, I can overall agree with Leon Botstein that “the American high school is obsolete and should be abolished” (“Let Teenagers Try Adulthood” Leon Botstein). However, looking over the problems, I can disagree with some of specific Botstein claims. The main problem is not an early maturity of young people, but lack of high schools financing which leads to poor quality of teachers training and overall disintegration of the students’ culture.…
