For the first time in 130 years, Americans ages 18-35 are more likely to live with their parents than in any other living situation. Leaving your parents home is a huge rite of passage and a lot of kids are missing out on it. Like in the story The Setting Sun on the Rolling Earth I believe that parents should know and understand when it is time to let their children go. They should also understand that they can’t keep protecting them forever. Protecting your child is making them miss another important part of the rite of passage, making your own decisions and learning from their mistakes. Even though keeping your house open for your children is great, making them dependent on you isn’t. In the story Setting sun on the rolling earth, Musoni is a farmer whose son wants to leave his home in Zimbabweans. Musoni doesn't want his son, Nhamo to leave his home. He is scared that he might lose his son. Musoni still lets him go even though he doesn’t want to because he understands that you have to let them do their own thing. Because Musoni let Nhamo go, Nhamo can follow his dream and find out who he is and what he wants to do. Even if you have to force it, letting your child go is the best choice and can help them make a better future for themselves. …show more content…
My parents made me make my own decisions and taught me that make the wrong one is fine as long as you learn from your mistake. Taking away this learning experience is horrible because they won’t know how to make their own decisions and how to learn from their mistakes. Even in the story, Musoni understands that this is his son Nhamo choice and that he can’t force his son to stay with him forever.
