Another message in this story is to never give up, because if Mariatu had given up after the attack who knows where'd she be. I think the author, Mariatu and Susan include characters such as the man who gave her a mango to eat because at the end it all ties down to the story and her journey. The author had also used settings such as the countries Mariatu went to in the stories because it made a big change in the story.

B. One main big decision made by Mariatu was choosing whether or not to stay in England or go back to Sierra Leone and apply for a green card to Canada . The reason why to important is because she might not be able to leave Sierra Leone. It would most likely impact her own future and only hers. The last main decision Mariatu had to make was when she wanted to go to school, because every day she'd change her mind all the time. It could only affect her because it's her future and her life.
