In the chapter “True Lies,” author Jeffery L. Seglin illustrates the impact and consequences of lying in the business world.…
Today society consists of good, yet dishonest company. Deceit is more common than uncommon and research has shown that on a daily basis, lies are consistent in every individual’s life. According to a study done by U.S. News & World Report, for every 10 minutes of mundane conversation, one person will tell two to three lies. However, although lying is an evil action that is regarded by many as immoral or betrayal, research has found that a little lying can actually be good for you (Boser).…
"The empirical evidence seems to point to the conclusion that we lie and cheat much more often than we care to admit. At the same time, we strive to maintain a positive image of ourselves, and moral values are a central component of our self-image..." (Francesa Gino)…
Within a dishonest act there is normally a balance of tradeoffs: 1. the amount that is to be…
Honesty is one of the man’s best qualities. Honesty can build lifelong relationships, which lies in no way will be capable of making. People will develop trust in you, your deeds and your words if you respect them enough to be honest with them. As well as built on honesty, trustworthy relationships are based on honesty. They are hard to gain and are hard to maintain and can be very easily destroyed. Deceive the person once and you will never be trusted again. Think twice when you are about to lie about anything.…
Each one of us has, at some point in our lives, lied to somebody about something. We, at that time, rationalized it and justified it to ourselves to put our conscience at ease, and then banished the uncomfortable feeling still persisting, to the back of our minds. What is it in our nature that encourages such marvelous self-deception? It is believed that the circumstances prevailing at that moment compel people to lie. In most cases, people lie to protect their personal interests. However, there are people who lie to deceive others, while some others are just addicted to lying. There are many who lie to avoid criticism from others. Studies have shown that 12% of adults admit that they lie sometimes. Age, it seems, does impart wisdom to people. Some studies, which included only teenagers for evaluating percentage of lying/dishonesty, revealed that 50% lied about issues related to money, and 83% lied to their parents.…
As the sun is well-known to all by its brightness and energy, so an honest person can also be recognized by his quality and behavior. An honest man receives in life better than a dishonest man. He is esteemed by the people and appreciated for his moral character. History tells us how honest men in the world have advanced in life by their hard labor and real endeavors. An honest man becomes respectably effective. His nature is like a sharp sword made of stainless steel. To err is human. If an honest man does a mistake or anything immoral, he will be forgiven by the people since everyone will admit the fact that he must have made it by mistake or ignorance. But if the same offense is done by a dishonest man, people will not forgive him since none believes him.…
In the modern world of today everything moves fast .Almost all of us feel a part of this rat race towards success, fame or money. Lost in this we seem to forget the morals and values that are the very basis of our existence and tend to believe that ''everything is fair in love and war, even if it involves using unfair means or lying. Here we are faced with the question ''is honesty always the best policy''…
When we hear the word sincerity, what is our first impression of the word? According to dictionaries this word is defined as freedom from deceit, hypocrisy, or duplicity; probity in intention or in communicating; earnestness. However, if we put it in our own simple words, the best definition to the term would probably be being true to what you say. It isn’t enough to tell someone what’s pleasing to hear, but the truth plays an important factor in sincerity as well.…
Sometime ago, I once told a friend of mine her drawing wasn't very good; In fact let me be completely honest here, I simply told her, her drawing sucked… yep I told her that with pretty much brutal honesty, and naturally she was pretty devastated (as it turns out she was expecting praise or at the very least a positive comment since she thought it was her first decent drawing). Either way it seems that the damage was done because ever since she's gone to great limits to hide her drawings from me.So…. Are you guys getting the moral of the story here?If you say "Yes" then thanks, at the very least my words weren't wasted and someone actually learned something from that little story, if you say "No I didn't understand the gist of that stupid, somewhat pointless story" well, let me thank you still since you've given me the opportunity to explain so that this essay won't end with only a below 150 word count, sarcasm there's absolutely no way I am tempted to pass my essay like that! /sarcasmAnyways I won't waste anymore words; the moral of the story is that honesty hurts; in fact it hurt/traumatized my friend so much that ever since that little careless comment she won't even let me get a peek at her drawings ever since. Not. One. Single. Peek. When I get annoyed and demand to know why she won't let me see her drawings she just says (with equal annoyance) that she thinks I'll just make "fun of it" again; Ever since then I've been careful to watch my words It seems that the since saying "what goes around, comes back around" does in fact hold truth. As of that I've been in a moral dilemma, do I keep telling "the truth and nothing but the truth" every time I am asked for a helpful opinion or do I overlook some mistakes and tell a little white lie? After all what harm can a lie do? Is honesty truly the best policy? Will my friend regain trust in me and let me see her drawings? Will I get a somewhat decent grade for this essay? Why did I even…
