Summary:

This book is about the story of a boy named Percy Jackson. He’s 12 years old and on the first day of summer, just after the end of the sixth-grade year, he discovers there’s something wrong with him. He learns that he is a half-blood: half-human and half-god. He gets taken to Camp Half-Blood in New York, a camp for people that are just like him and is safe from the monsters out there to attack the half-bloods.

At the camp, Percy learns more about himself, and who his real father is. The ancient Greek god of the sea, Poseidon one of the 3 great gods along with his brothers Hades and Zeus, is his real father. When Zeus’ master bolt (the object that he uses to create lightning where and whenever he wants) gets stolen, Poseidon is blamed for it. Zeus tells Poseidon that he must bring the master bolt back to Mount Olympus (where the gods live) by the summer solstice or else there will be a war between them. Poseidon is disappointed in his brother for blaming him for such a thing.

In Percy's essay The Loss of the Creature, he talks about the sightseer in the Grand Canyon. When looked up in the dictionary, a sightseer is a tourist who is visiting sights of interest. A sightseer can also be described as one given to seeing sights or noted things. This is important because in the essay, Percy talks about the value P and that if the Grand Canyon "is seen by a million sightseers, a single sightseer does not receive value P but a millionth part of value P". The sightseer is the one who perceives the Grand Canyon and will receive a certain amount of value P from that of the Spanish explorer. However, he cannot see the Grand Canyon for what it is when he perceives it according to the symbolic complex in his mind.…

References to Greek mythology pervade much of popular Western culture, and although some allusions may go unnoticed for those without a background in mythology. The study of classical mythology is not a standardized, widespread component of education, and thus there is a gap in understanding of these references for many people. One book that sought to popularize Greek mythology amongst young students was Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, which topped the children’s bestsellers lists just under ten years ago. Percy Jackson, a teenager living in New York City, is the protagonist in this novel and embodies the Greek hero Perseus in his relationship with his mother and the quest on which he embarks. While any competent reader can understand the…

    2. My favorite place from the setting is the library. To me the library is like a whole different world. It’s not just a place full of books: it’s a place that you can explore and learn new things every day. I go to the library at least once a week, and read as many books as I can per month. The reason I love reading is because you can escape reality and enter the world of the character(s) in the novel.…

Poseidon was the god of the sea, earthquakes, and horses. As the protector of all sea creatures, he was considered the worst tempered, temperamental and greedy god, after disputes with the other gods. His brother, Zeus and hades, dominated their father Cronus and the titans together. They all had to draw straws, to divide the world, in which Poseidon drew the seas. The trident, is the weapon of Poseidon, which can cause earthquakes and shatter many objects. With this power weapon, he was considered to have the strongest power, amongst, Zeus and hades.
