Summary Of Looking For Cheese By Spencer Johnson
Spencer Johnson writes a book about four characters looking for cheese in a maze. Looking for cheese represents how people strive to accomplish goals that make them fully happy (Johnson, 1998, p. 14). Throughout the book, Johnson briefly explains the characteristics of each character and reflects it to how it represents people.
Johnson says that the four characters represent us by the way we are different, but we act similar in certain ways. For example, individuals who act like Sniff and Scurry are those who think as they go through the process of accomplishing goals. Also, these people work together to help one another reach for success (Johnson, 1998, p. 26). People who act like Hem and Haw are those individuals who let their emotions overthink

Carlo Ginzburg’s The Cheese and the Worms: The Cosmos of a Sixteenth-Century Miller explores the trials of supposed heretic Domenico Scandella. Better known as Menocchio, The Cheese and the Worms details his extensive beliefs about mistruths in religion and is written as a micro history of the events of his trial. At a time when religion and God were thought of as pure fact, Menocchio doubted their supreme existence and this lead to his death by burning. When reviewing Ginzburg’s account of the trials, the sources of his many ideas come to light and these ideas show that the Catholic Church and its members were scared the most by Menocchio’s ideas about the origins of earth.…

In Carlo Ginzburg's "The Cheese and the Worms," a common person by the name of Menocchio went against social and cultural norms to present a reformation during the Sixteenth Century. Studying common people's lives help to understand how everyday life was like for most people in Italy during this time. Only they knew how it felt to be ruled and told what to do because of their low social status. People like Menocchio are worthwhile to study because the common people are the ones who make rulers and generals look good or bad. If common people such as Menocchio didn't challenge society and no one else will, especially not for the lowest class of society.…

“The Hunger Artist” is a short story first written by Franz Kafka. Then, the story was created into graphic novel by Robert Crumb. “The Hunger Artist” is about a man who experiences his fast for many days, travels from town to town with his impresario. He is locked in a case and on display in front of unknown people wherever he stops by. Throughout the story, the Hunger Artist performs his art of fasting passionately. He refuses food, but behind his fast is a need of other kinds of nourishment: public recognition and artistic perfection. However, he finally hunger for both physical and spiritual nourishment. What he does is just separates himself from other people because they do not understand him. People look at him curiously. The Hunger Artist put himself into isolation and is seen as an alien. The more he does to achieve his pride, the worst he gets back from people watching his art. This aspect explores an important theme of the story that the pride if not managed will harm people badly. Therefore, do not live under imagination. The two versions of “A Hunger Artist” share some similarities such as the theme, the main character, and emotional impact brought out from the character’s behavior and thought. However, they still have few differences due to the effect of picturing: less word, each scene is put into a panel, and therefore appeal to the readers.…

Walter Benjamin, Jewish philosopher and cultural critic, once said, “History is created by the victors.” Assuming that this belief is true, the question becomes what then happens to the losers? Carlo Ginzburg presents a similar notion in his book “The Cheese and the Worms.” Rather, his notion is “history is created by the literate.” Historically, the population who could read and write was limited to the well-to-do upper class. This proves to be a problem for historians who seek to know more about the lower class who seemingly left few traces of their lives. Literature has always been an important component in preserving culture and the beliefs of a population, but it cannot be assumed that the “high” and “low”, as Ginzburg refers to the upper and the lower class, had the same experiences or outlook on life. The lower, uneducated class has no way to preserve their way of life other than through oral culture, which can become distorted over the years. During his research Ginzburg stumbled across the 16th century manuscripts of the trial of Domenico…

    Who Moved My Cheese

The message from the book Who Moved My Cheese was that if you want something in life you have to go out and get it and that no one hand is going to hand it to you. Meaning there will be changes in your life and you have to be willing to accept it; and not be afraid of the word change. Because if you're not willing to open up to change life will pass you by without looking back. The character I can say I identify the most is the mouse which was Haw. My reason for saying this is because Haw was a person who wasn't willing to accept change at first because his friend kept telling him how he didn't want to accept it because he was scared and that Hem kept saying how there was nothing better out there for them. So instead of Haw doing what he wanted to do he kept listening to his friend and not his heart. But at the end he was starting to open up to change, and he saw that change was good for him. I would have to say my cheese is my future goal which is to be a physical therapist assistant. However I can't be a Haw anymore I have to be a Scurry who sees what's needed and take action to it immediately. I can't just sit around and not think I'm going to become a PTA by being a Haw who takes their time opening up to change when I need to be willing to open to it a little quicker. The character I can relate to someone I know is Hem. I can relate Hem to someone is because they wasn't willing to accept change at all. They were the best athlete in high school, and everyone looked up to them. But when it was time for them to graduate from high school and attend college she was so excited because she was going to try-out for the basketball team. Until the day it finally came to try-out, the coaches were giving plays to run and she didn't run them because she use to come up with her own plays like in high school; and her coach would run them and she felt like she was in charge all…
