I, Juan De Pareja The book Juan De Pareja takes place in the renaissance. When the main character, Juan, a young slave’s masters die, he is inherited by their nephew. Juan is taken to him by Carmelo. On their journey Carmelo takes Juan to a gypsy camp and is forced to steal food. Juan is beaten and ignored by Carmelo. After a while, Juan escapes Carmelo, and starts working for a baker in the city. The deal is that Juan can stay if he takes care of the baker’s sick son. Juan does this, and decides to move on after the son gets better.

Velázquez wants Juan to stay with him and be his assistant, and Juan does. Because he is freed, he asks if he can marry Lolis. With her consent, they get married and stay together in the Velázquez’s home. Eventually, Velázquez gets sick and dies. Juan and Lolis leave their home to try to find a new place to live. Juan goes to Bartolomé’s home and is invited to stay and paint with him.

Juan enjoyed living with his first masters. They treated him well and he liked learning to write from them. But, he disliked how they dressed him up in funny costumes, he wanted someone to treat him like a person. This is exactly what Velázquez did for him.
Juan was very religious. Whenever he’d practice his secret paintings, he’d go to the church and ask for forgiveness. I think he had hope throughout the story, when he was being abused by Carmelo or when he was helping the master get better.
Diego Velázquez was a quiet character. He didn’t talk often, mostly just to his family or Juan. He seemed to concentrate very hard on his paintings. When he made a mistake, he started over. This shows that he may have been critical of his

Las Meninas by Diego Velazquer is a very complex painting. When you look at the painting the focal point could be anyone. The first thing you notice is that the Princess and the Maids are focusing on each other. You will see the artist and the King and Queen in mirrors. You have to look at clues to tell you who is really the focus of the painting. The maids are really only there in the title, but they are not the focus. The King and Queen could be the focus, but why they be. The painting is supposed to be about the Princess and the Maids, but they are all looking at each other in the painting. As you examine each of the characters of the painting, you notice subtle differences. All of the figures, not including the Princess and the Maids, appear to be shaded darker. The clothing is darker, and the figures are not as detailed. The Maids are put in lighter clothing and detailed, but they are not the focus. When…

The repetition that Castillo uses to describe the abnormal situations happening in this family constantly reminds the readers how the family gets through their highs and their lows. Castillo would repeat all throughout the first few chapters that La Loca prays for the family, she talks to God and ask him for his help to keep his family strong. Castillo would also repeatedly inform the readers of certain occasions each of the sisters been through. For example, La Loca and her accident that happened as a baby is always reminded to the audience. Because that is a key component to the story and to why the family gets through these terrible situations, it is important that we do not forget what happened to the family early in the story. Castillo…

Diego Rivera’s artwork is very unique and is still very popular today. Diego Rivera, who is arguably one of the most important 20th Century Latin American artists, who was only eighteen years old at the time, painted “El Albanil” in 1904. This painting is only one of three or four known paintings to exist from that early period of the artist’s career. It shows his talent for a muralist style and like most well known for representing. The oil on canvas painting is signed by the artist and dated 1904. To me, this painting stood out to me because it was one of the only paintings in the exhibit where it had only one person in the painting.…

Purgatory seen in Pedro Páramo In Pedro Páramo, many of the characters introduced are either dead or they die soon after the reader meets them. Due to the prominent aspect of death in the novel, the author, Juan Rulfo structured the city the novel takes place in, Comala, as purgatory. When someone ends up in purgatory they have committed a sin, however they loved God completely, so they are placed there until their sins are forgiven, then they go to Heaven. By creating characters that remain in purgatory after their deaths, Juan Rulfo allows the narration of the novel to shift between people and time periods using a narrative style called magical realism. Using purgatory, and a narrative convoluted with time and space, in Pedro Páramo a novel…
