Summary Of Hoover's Advertisements
“Brand new!” “50 percent off!” Advertisements use slogans to catch people’s attention. People usually see the boom and bang of the item being sold to the consumers, but they do not see the minor details. These minor details sometimes hide what a person should actually see in an advertisement because a recent ad for a Hoover vacuum cleaner uses its background and the words of the ad to attract people to the item. Hoover’s advertisement draws our attention not by the vacuum cleaner itself but by the background effect, the slogan, and how the lady in the ad is being portrayed. Hoover utilizes these key concepts in the advertisement in order to tie everything together to make the vacuum as appealing as possible to potential buyers.
Hoover’s advertisement contains a range of effects in the background such as people in the city and how it is pointed to only certain shopping places in the background. The background is used to bring out how the vacuum is supposed to be used for like cleaning a house, but now it is cleaning the entire city. The woman shown is representing how females are usually the ones cleaning the house and who does the housework. Hoover is trying to sell the vacuums to females that are housewives because females are the ones cleaning the homes. Also, the advertisement suggests females are traditionally the ones that are clean freaks. The one is used to portray how at home, females can clean all day and still have so much time left over. Hoover used the female to connect with the slogan because females can reach their limit as well.
