I read the book Cinder by Marissa Meyer. This book is the first book of The Lunar Chronicles. The most interesting part of the book was that the author put a lot of twists and turns at the end. My least favorite part of the book was when the main character, Cinder, had witness her stepsister’s death. The author wanted us to learn do not judge from the outside but judge what is on the inside. I like this book because the author puts twist on the Cinderella story. Other student would like this book by how the story is in the future. My question, ’’Is she going to escape?”…

Virtually everyone has heard many kinds of fairy tales at some points especially in their childhood. Fairy tales are not only for entertaining, but also for passing down information. Tales and stories have been used as a valuable tool to explain natural phenomena, explored relationships, and teach morals. Tales can mirror and influence society. Different cultures have their unique version of tales to carry and pass down the needs of their particular society to the next generation. The same tale in the Europe is different from the tale told in Canada. Both Cyrus Macmillan and Charles Perrault’s “Cinderella” tales describe Cinderella as a gentle and beautiful young lady. Cinderella in both versions had a tough life at the beginning that her sister treated her very cruelly, yet she received a good marriage at the end because of her good characters. However, those two versions have difference. In Macmillan’s “Cinderella”, the author focuses on the character of protagonist. The warrior married Cinderella because she had spoken truth. In Perrault version, the prince fell in love with Cinderella because of her beautiful appearance although the story was also emphasis on her good character. Overall, both versions of Cinderella were stressed on her inside and outside beauties, which make her had a biggest reward.…

Central to the story is a deadly disease that kills off characters very close to Cinder and Prince Kai, and there are some scenes of the dying in quarantine. War is threatened by a queen of the moon, who evilly manipulates her subjects and kills off those she can't control. Cinder is a great tough-girl character who can fix anything and acts selflessly to help those in danger.” Some people may argue that the book is girly but the cliffhanger ending, the emotions, and the suspenseful events make the book an amazing New York Times Bestseller worth reading. The Disney princesses have been a staple in American culture for many generations. From Cinderella to Snow White these princesses have been adapted into different stories, cultures, and forms of art. On March 17, 2017 at Moline High School, I attended the yearly musical, this year being Cinderella. As I entered the auditorium, an usher took my ticket and greeted and told me to enjoy the show, which I appreciated. The auditorium was pretty packed; however, I had gotten a reserved seat. Cinderella, Cherrie Herberg, had a warm and timid personality, which was perfect for Cinderella. She had a few times during her singing parts that could have been stronger, but overall her singing ability shone through. Cinderella really did well with the song…

She doesn’t remember her past, so she is trying to find out whom she is while also trying to fit into a new life as a cyborg and with her new family. Cinder is trying to find her purpose and what he is good at. She wants to be normal and fit in with her family, but has to come to terms with the fact that she will never be normal and fit in. “’Your stupid awards aren’t going to keep food on this table, and now you’ve brought home one more mouth—and a cyborg at that!’ … ‘We have our own girls to think about. I can’t even afford new shoes for Pearl, and now there’s this creature in the house who’s going to need… what? A new foot every six months?’” (Meyer 63). In this passage, Adri is yelling at Garan, her husband because she doesn’t like Cinder and is upset that Garan has brought her home. This is one of the big reasons for Cinder’s search for…

Shortly after he got back to his family in New Beijing, he passed away from Letumosis, more commonly known as “the plague”. Because he traveled to Europe and adopted Cinder, she was always blamed for his death, even though there was not anything that she could do about it. She stated, “My step-- my guardian, Adri, always suspected he got it in Europe. When he adopted me.”, Cinder told this to Dr. Erland, a doctor that she was sent to after Adri found out that her real daughter had acquired Letumosis after going to a junkyard with Cinder. She was sent to be a guinea pig for testing to find a cure, even though she did not volunteer. Adri still thought that she owed it to Peony, her step sister because she once again thought it was Cinder’s fault that one of her family members went out and got the plague. Although, it made absolutely no sense that Adri made that decision because Cinder was the family’s only source of income, she worked as a mechanic at the market to make money for them. Everything in the testing center ended up well after all, she met Dr. Erland, who became almost her mentor and taught her how special she was, and Cinder found out that she was immune to…

The novel, Cinder, provided an enjoyable use of techniques, however, some of the book’s elements are flawed. Before the positives are presented, I would like to point out the crucial flaw in the plot. The poorly-timed subplot was excessively romantic, drowning out the suspense and action, which caused a loss of effect and tension due to the addition of romantic flairs. The romance that proved to be the biggest detriment to the main plot was the romance between Cinder and Prince/Emperor Kai. This critical flaw aside, large-scale global dilemmas were introduced during the remainder of the book, which provided well-written, realistic elements that gave the story relatability. Throughout the book, multiple problems plagued a society that was trying to advance, such as the “letumosis” plague and…
