Summary: Chasing Dragons In San Diego
Chasing Dragons in San Diego

She was sitting by the bench outside her house in San Diego. Her house was just a few bricks and a piece of cardboard covering a worn out sofa and a broken coffee table. This isn’t surprising for illegals in the Southeast. You could even tell by her long dark hair and her golden skin she was latina - probably Mexican. She lived in a household of three, her father and her two sisters.

The day was pretty much predictable for all of them. Her sisters would go to work at the massage parlor while her father would go to deliver goods in a van all day. Yet there was something different about today, instead of washing the dishes at a local restaurant her father told her to follow her sisters into the massage parlour.

She was definitely euphoric, you could see it in her facial expressions. She felt like she found solitude from her disturbing household. She felt like she had power and control - something she was never given. It made her feel like she didn’t need to think about anything, she was finally living. She did it again and again until she felt happy but just an eerie feeling of nostalgia. It didn’t hit her like it did before. She wanted that feeling, the wonderful feeling of happiness that filled …show more content…
She put the powder in the spoon with water, placed a lighter underneath it, used a cotton bud as a filter and used a needle to suck in the solution. Right after that the needle was in her vein there was an intense rush of joyfulness. She could feel it warming up and diffusing into her bloodstream - like a cup of blue paint pouring into a pool of water. And in seconds she was like a bird flying over the air, feeling the wind’s whispery strands blowing against her face. Things were slightly weary yet wonderful - wow, was she in paradise? Everything’s lovely, people’s faces, there was no reason to hate, to love, she wanted didn’t need anything anymore, she found her nirvana.

She was even working better, everything was always good. When it’s raining and her customers were rude, she was still good. Nothing ever went wrong. It was her soulmate, her lover, her world, her everything. She couldn’t imagine a world without it. It’s difficult to explain how it’s so wonderful, it made you feel nice, better than how you would ever feel, it’s like, you just can’t explain. You will love it, it’s sweet and lovely - indescribable. You don’t care about the things you used to feel, but to feel the now - the present

The leaves she inhaled transported her to a place so high that even birds dared not to go. To say she was drunk or high would be an understatement. She had overdosed. The green leaves permeated the smell of a skunk. The alcohol created a wildfire in the back of her throat. You see much like drugs, the need for recognition, acceptance, and love is an addiction and can very often influence the choices we make. This is depicted in the 1950 film, Sunset Boulevard , written and directed by Billy Wilder.…
