Success Counselor Position
I am applying for a Success Counselor position at Bottom Line in Chicago. I initially saw the position doing a financial counselor search on Indeed.com.
While not having experience with college students directly, I have experience working with college age students as a military financial counselor and with young adults as a financial and investment planner. Potential applicable skills include goal setting, debt reduction, budgeting, and beginning savings and investing. I have the experience and ability to communicate with and understand individuals with varying personal financial and life situations, and am confident my skills and abilities can carry over as a Success Counselor at Bottom Line.

I realized that the more I have counseling advising sessions, the better I become with helping students with their process on how to go about applying for college. The biggest success out of my counseling sessions was students did not have no knowledge on college admissions and how to pay for college; I gave them information that was helpful and they can use in the future. I printed things out for them to keep, so in the future, they can use that information when it is time for them to apply for college.…

This week with seniors, I am executing small group financial aid workshops for students who needs help with the process of financial aid. Our goals with this financial aid workshop are to educate seniors with how college can be paid for and what is expected to apply for financial aid. We decided to work with smaller groups because financial aid is very overwhelming for students and we wanted to be able to give students that individual attention with the financial aid process. A financial aid verbal quiz was the first thing we did with the students, so we could get a more knowledgeable understanding of their level of knowledge on applying for financial aid. Of course, we noticed that majority of the students did not answer the true or false questions correctly. One thing that I noticed in my field training so far is students lack sever knowledge with college admissions and financial aid. Students really do not have no idea on how where to start for college admissions and financial aid. I realized as a future advisor, that I want to take on the responsibility of advocating and informing students on successfully applying for college and financial aid.…
