McDonald's franchises and operates McDonald's branded fast food restaurants all over the world. The company is one of the world's largest food service retailing chains. At the end of December 2014, the company operated over 36,000 restaurants in over 100 different countries. Of these, 24 percent were licensed to foreign affiliates, 57 percent were franchises, and over 18 percent were company operated.
