Demographic Analysis
New York City is the most populous city in the United States and is more than twice the size of Los Angeles, which is the second largest. The demographic of analysis is the statistic study of human populations and the socio economic characteristics of a population that is expressed statistically. From the demographic analysis we jump to the marketing point, the Subway food chain and whether this franchise or organization will be able to market here or not. This healthy fast food chain opened its first store in Bridgeport, Connecticut in August 1965 and the founder was Fred DeLuca. By 1974, he owned and operated sixteen submarine sandwich shops throughout Connecticut. In 2011 the population was at around 8,244,910 and about one out of every 36 people lived in New York City itself. Over 3 million residents are foreign born and two million altogether are under the age of eighteen. This city contains over two fifths of New York State’s entire population. New York City in New York has a land area of about 468.5 square miles which out of the state as a whole is 47,126.40 square miles from the 2010 census. The people per square mile in 2010 was about 27,012.5 in the city. The education level in New York City resides around one third of the population who are 25 and over having a bachelor’s degree or higher and that is 33.3 percent; high school graduation percentage was around 79. Also in New York itself is the nations largest importer of college students who among freshmen in college leave their state to attend a university in New York because of its high education level. Also about 594,000 students were enrolled in New York City higher education institutions as of the 2000 census and this is the highest number of an city altogether in America. From the gender population altogether in New York City, are approximately 375,000 more women than men. The average commute for these New Yorker is nearly under forty minutes, in which this refers to traveling to work, and that is about fifteen minutes longer than the national average in America. The median age from 2000 was around 34.2 years. The number of households from the year 2006 to 2010 was around 3,047,249 and the home ownership rate was 33%. The number of persons per household was about 2.59. The number of people that below the poverty level was about 19.1 percent and the median household income around the same range of years was 50,285 dollars. Also about two thirds of dwellings in New York are renter occupied. New York City has the largest Chinese or Asian population of any city outside of Asia and also the largest Puerto Rican population of any city in the world. A little over 2.34 million people are Hispanics and that is said to be more than any other city in the United States itself. The African American or Black population was around 1.86 million in 2010 and that more than the double the count in any other U.S. city. Nearly half of all New Yorkers are bilingual meaning they speak a language other than English at home and there are about 200 languages that are spoken all together in New York City. Today, Subway is the world's largest submarine sandwich chain with more than 34,000 locations around the world. This brand has led people to make healthier choices by seeking quick and fresh nutritious meals. In New York city, this brand would be able to be successful because knowing from the demographic analysis conducted from the census throughout the years, the percentage of people who walk to work and commute from places to places usually do not have time to eat at home and many eat at places near them. There is already a Subway chain in New York and so I think that this be successful in marketing this franchise here. But also taking into account the different other famous sub shops in New York City could be a competitive challenge as well.
