The most important goal for my future is to obtain a satisfying career. Growing up I saw how unhappy my mother was working at a job that she hated just to make enough to provide for our family. I further understood how important a satisfying career was to me when I started working the graveyard shift as a dockworker during community college. I strongly disliked almost everything about the job including the exposure to extreme temperatures, the job’s filthy nature, the long and irregular hours, and most of all because it was unfulfilling. I was miserable with my occupation but I was dependent on it because it was lucrative and provided me with a way to support myself through college. I worked fulltime at this job for two years while also being a fulltime student until I transferred to SIU. The dread that I felt toward my job made me work harder academically because I knew that someday my hard work would amount to a career that I thoroughly…

Challenges will arise and everyday life may interfere. Three challenges I face in meeting both short and long-term goals, is lack of time, personal life distractions, and control in advancing professionally. I have to focus on incorporating better time management and stress management into my every day schedule, so lack of time is not an issue. Personal life distractions, include a Forty-hour work week and commute, my fourth month old baby girl, and leisure activities. What I have learned is to plan out a time each day for these activities. It helps manage my time and stress, by keeping track of all activities and obligations on a calendar. If I have a written schedule that I visually can see, I stay focused. Finding a good balance in life is what keeps me moving forward and accomplishing my goals. One may not always have complete control in accomplishing goals one may have for themselves, an example is my goal to achieve at a higher level professionally. Sure I can have an abundance of knowledge and work hard every day, but in the end it will be the hirer who determines if I am a good fit for the position. Competition in the job industry is at its all-around high, but the key to success is, never give up. Graduating with a Master’s Degree is a milestone in achieving my short-term goal, and advancing professionally in a new career as well as showing confidence, by performing at a higher level is a…

As the world becomes increasingly more technology-dependent, it's even more necessary that to be successful, students must learn to be handy with technology. On top of being able to search through a variety of job listings that will spark interest the most, being good with technology is a sharp skill that can be listed to create strong resumes now that every job is involved in the use of technology. Although majority of students know word processing as second nature, knowing how to use specific softwares and technology can make an employer feel better about spending the extra money to hire instead of worrying about tightening the company’s budget even more. The reason behind this is because employers want to save not only money, but time as well, on someone already trained. In an article called, “Benefits of Technology in the Classroom,” by Janelle Cox, an education writer, states, “ Ed-tech in the classroom prepares students for their future and sets them up for this increasing digital economy” (Cox).…

I am very competitive so I am not going to stop until I am satisfied with the outcome. One can find my level of determination in everything I do. Being determined is not always about completing something first or being the best at something. It is about making myself feel accomplished with the outcome. Whether it is in sports that I am competing in or making myself get up and go to a class. Every time that I get out of bed and drive to school, I am shaping myself into a stronger individual that will be more successful in the future. I make myself go to classes because I am thinking about my future. If I bite the bullet now and take on all the hard tasks that get in my way I can have a more enjoyable life later. I am basically following in the footsteps of my sister. She is training to become a physical therapist. Becoming a physical therapist is not an easy task. If it was easy, anyone would be able to do it. I am fortunate enough to see the things that she did not do that would have been beneficial to her. I am able to better myself so that when I am in the upper level education courses, I will not have to fret as much as she does. I can prepare myself for the worst by taking on the worst now rather than later. This can either be for the upper education that I will need to partake in the future or the career that I will need to establish later in life. Success in building a healthy family and a…

For example: one of my goals is graduating. Not only do I just want to graduate, I want to graduate with my associates degree. I’m also determined to work hard this school year and the next three that follow to complete my goal. Another goal I would love to complete is getting a doctorate in the profession, I decide to take part in. One more goal I’m working hard at is getting good grades. I feel a succeeding grade point average is three-point eight. Even though I see that as succeeding, I’m still going to try to get a three-point nine grade point average or higher overall this school year and the following school years. So, those are just some of my goals I would like to complete. I have many more goals I hope to complete, with hard work hopefully my goals will be completed.…
