Study Abroad Benefits
The opportunity to study abroad during my college years would be a great experience. I believe studying overseas is an important, perhaps even necessary, event during college. There are many benefits to studying in another country, which include gaining a broader global perspective and learning about different cultures, religions and people. Knowledge gained from books and studying is important, but experiencing the world for oneself and learning outside the classroom is just as important. I believe that studying abroad would allow me to have a more comprehensive education, as I would learn so much more than I could gain from books.
According to an article from the School of International Training, there are many benefits to studying abroad. One benefit is that you can gain new perspective on the world. You are able to learn through a cultural and academic experience from the inside out. It allows you to explore issues related to globalization, development, poverty, and social inequity from many different perspectives. When a student returns to the US, they will almost always see things differently: They can put themselves in someone else’s shoes more easily and have a better understanding of the world.
Another benefit pointed out by SIT is increased language skills. Programs typically offer language study at the intermediate and advanced levels and beginning instruction in a less commonly taught language spoken by the local community. Often, courses will incorporate formal classroom instruction, discussion, and field exercises designed to enhance student engagement and improve oral and written competence. By using language skills in daily life, students can discover that they not only can survive but flourish in another country.
According to UNT-International, studying abroad can improve your academic, professional and financial potential. International experience is a critical and very impressive part of any resume. In addition to the personal growth you'll

I agree that collegiate student should spend a semester abroad. Although I think that students should be given the option to study abroad and not be required to, only because some will lack interest or not have the means to travel. Traveling to a foreign country and culture will give students great opportunities to experience other cultures and peoples. Seeing the other peoples and experiencing new laws and restrictions, seeing what adversities other countries face will make American students appreciate the freedoms that they have in America. Another benefit is the life experience that will come from spending a semester in a foreign country.…

Secondly, studying abroad helps people gain more experiences than studying locally. Studying abroad is very fascinating. People will meet new things that they have never seen before. They are able to gain their experiences from learning new cultures, and meeting lots of different people. In contrast, people, who study locally, will gain their experiences just only in their country. They will meet just the same things and do not have a chance like people who study abroad. Moreover studying abroad can enhance their career. It is something that gives people the priority. You may notice that most people, who succeed in their career, used to study abroad. Therefore studying abroad is better than studying locally.…

Does studying abroad always give more opportunities for international students? I strongly think studying abroad presents more disadvantages to international students than advantages. Even though some people believe that studying in another country gives international students unique experiences and opportunities that they may not find in their own country, I do not support this opinion. While I was in Australia for two years, I experienced culture shock and suffered from homesickness. In addition, I had to go through various hardships and cope with many difficult situations for myself. An Australian study reports that language, tuition cost, and feelings of isolation ranked the highest among problems faced by international students (qtd. in Lee and Rice 387). It is not a surprise to say that most international students suffer from all sorts of hardships in other countries. As I am an international student in the U.S., I think there are many problems faced by those who choose to study abroad, including the language difficulties, a strain on personal relationship, and adjusting to local culture and traditions.…

One of the merits of studying overseas would be being exposed to different cultures. When a student is exposed to different cultures at this developmental stage, he or she will learn to adapt to the new environment and experience culture shock at an earlier age. This in turn helps the student better develop his or her adaptability to different surroundings and how to better deal with sudden changes in whatever task he or she may be undertaking at that point in time. When said student grows up, he or she will be more prepared to enter the working world and cope with various demands like overseas attachment programs or going overseas to negotiate deals in our constantly changing world, which is growing more independent. An example of someone who has studied overseas is the 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton. According to a thesis done by Thomas I. Wortman, who holds of a degree in Doctor of Philosophy from the Pennsylvania State University, Clinton cites the importance of international study and educational exchange as “being critical components to meet challenges in an increasingly independent world”. Despite not being a Singaporean student, what Clinton cited is relevant to students of all nationalities studying away from their home country. Therefore, the experience of studying overseas is an excellent one as it aids us in one of the processes we undergo as we grow up.…

In my opinion, I would definitely advocate that study abroad has obvious advantages compare to its disadvantages. First of all, foreign student can make more friends around the world, and also learn about their culture and languages, or teach them about our own country’s cultures and languages. Secondly, foreign student can get more experience and broad-minded because they are consider alone after they leave their home and country to study in oversea, they learn to be more independent and learn how to adapted in other country.
