1.0 CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION

Primary education starts at age of 6 or 7.There are eight years required to complete primary education. Each year goes from January to December with month long breaks in April, August and December. The first year is called “standard one” and each subsequent year is standard all the way until standard 8.Standard one through four is referred to as Lower primary while standard five to eight is referred to as upper primary. Most primary schools in Kenya are Day schools as opposed to Boarding schools. In Kenya there are two types of primary schools namely Public and Private respectively. Public primary schools are that owned by the government whereas Private schools are that owned by an individual or a private organization but all with the aim to promote primary education. At the beginning of standard 8 students are allowed to select 4 to 6 secondary schools that they would like to attend including 2 national schools. At the end of the semester students take the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).This is a standardized exam taken by the entire standard 8 students nationwide .The Govern body of KCPE is the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC). Introduction of free primary education in most public schools and Increase in number of students in Kenya in both Public and Private primary schools had resulted in decline of use of manual systems like the files to register and manage the students effectively and as a result it has led to the introduction of computerized systems to ease problems by lessening amount of time in registering and managing the students. The introduction of computerized system has therefore increased accuracy and effectiveness and thus it will be of great importance in our time.

1.2 DESCRIPTION OF THE CURRENT SYSTEM

Activities of the Current System:-

Aim of the system analyst was to design a computerized system that will make it easier for the new public school to completely do away with the use of manual system that involves use of pen and papers that are used to register new and manage current students enrolled in the school thus saving time.
